It was an isolating experience - a blow to my pride - to be one of many, a fraction of millions. Smog permeated the air, the noisome breathing of millions of bodies and rotting garbage looming over me, almost physically oppressive. I narrowed my eyes at the black buildings and passing crowds hemming me in, preening my long hair with nervous pats. The farther I went into the city, the more on edge I was, sensing beings with strength I could never hope to reach, power that was neither youki nor reiki, not human nor demon. I examined the phone I'd been given, disdainful, seeing my name, Karasu, engraved in it in neat kanji. Curiosity piqued, I turned out from the noisy boulevard to a quieter side-street, searching for something or someone to play with.
