[The last thing that Mao could recall was his mind slipping away, dying. Whoever at the PANDORA facility had found his trace took him off the network, severing the wireless connection linked to his brain. This was most likely the Syndicate's doing, now that they had turned on him--his team too.
An unconscious black cat on the ground blinked opened its eyes. The cat instincts automatically moved the body to stand--the human soul a little on the disoriented side from within.
It didn't take long at all to realize that Mao hadn't really slipped away as his blurry vision became clear. The all too familiar feel of seeing everything so clearly as bright as an early afternoon was there.
He was so certain that he was a goner! But here he was, back in the same body as before. What was this? Also, he was getting the creeps, a similar feeling--
Mao tensed while looking at the street and city buildings that seemed deserted. This eerie feeling was a sign that he could still be in the Gate. Alone. Hei and Yin no doubt had to leave him behind, now that the cat had become a cat again. Or so they all must have logically concluded...
As he was trying to find figure out what was going on, a cat's yowl had cut through the dead silence. What? B-but--there's no way any other animal would be able to live very long under massive amounts of radiation!
"Miaooow!" Yikes! The female cat was fairly close, obviously wanting to get it on with him. Springtime wasn't supposed to come until after the next four months!
Damn it! Mao started to scamper away as fast as his short furry legs could take him. The little gold bell jingled like crazy as he ran, dangling from the red collar around his neck.
Forget that he was alive again. Forget that he didn't have the slightest idea as to whatever was going on. Right now, the only thing this Contractor was worried about was getting the hell away from the real cat.]
