Finding Time to Read

Apr 06, 2011 10:22

Wow, I can't believe it's already April. This semester doesn't feel as long or has hard as the last one. I guess it's because I'm taking some same classes and some of them are not as hard.

So, for one of my classes, History, I need to read Night, a story about a young boy before, during, and after the Holocaust. I have already read the summary on Wikipedia so I won't get lost while reading. I haven't completed the first chapter but I plan to actually read this book. I need to have it done and write a paper on it by April 18th.

Speaking of reading, I've been doing a lot better with these reading assignments for my English 217. I guess because rather than just read and take a quiz, it's just reading and discussion. Also, the homework requires some highlighting of interesting parts or how a section of the reading was constructed. I guess the reading isn't all that bad since they give examples about how to write essays that I need to write. Also, I figured it would be important to see what had been published since I plan to go into publishing.

I was recommended to take a course that dealt with children and young adult literature, but those take place all the way down in Tempe. But when I do actually read my assignments, I don't feel as though they are a chore. Last semester, reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie was great and so was Maus I and II.

It's still a little bit challening to read, but hopefully I can take them one step at a time. Maybe once I finish night, I'll analyze my first book ever: The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton.
