Who: Sakura and Tenten
Where: Practice Room III
When: Saturday, September 13th, 1988
What: A confession arises during their Vocal session.
Warnings: Tenten's stupid brain.

Tenten was only a couple of minutes late, considering the double practice session with Jamie had ended early. But that was okay, she had coffee to soothe the extra minutes grief. Tenten hoped Sakura wasn't too peeved, but she would be seeing her friend tomorrow too. Tenten's day had started early at six and now at eight-fifteen, she edged into Practice Room III with Ramone at her back, checking to see if Sakura was somehow late.

Sakura wasn't, and was already studying her notes at the table next to the piano. "Zao shang hao," Tenten greeted her friend and put the coffee down. "Sorry, I'm late. Jamie was getting excited over the stuff for Cello. Totally jazzed up." He was so cute. Tenten just wanted to hug and squish him. She sat down next to Sakura and grinned. "And how has your morning gone?"

Sakura put her pencil down and turned to look at her semi-late friend. Sakura really didn't mind at all of course, she knew Tenten had a busy weekend and she just nodded at her friend's excuse. "Sure, no problem Tenten. I've been in here since five doing stuff." This was true of course and Sakura really appreciated that Tenten shared the same study habits as she did. They were in school to learn, and Sakura felt it was imperative to fill her mind with as much as possible, there was no point in being idle. If she was awake she was going to stimulate her mind. Or perhaps she was just a little bit different, she already knew she was different, she really did enjoy learning. She heard something tap on the table, coffee a huge cup of steaming bitter coffee. "Have I mentioned I love you? My morning is now amazing."

She took a sip and let a sigh of contentment spill from her lips. Sooooo good, but hot. Very hot, her tongue felt a little fuzzy now. Wait... Jamie? She'd never heard of a Jamie before. Tenten had no idea how popular she was with the guys. Seriously. "Who's Jamie?" Sakura grinned at her friend. There was time to discuss before starting their assignment, especially since she hadn't taken a break until right this second and she assumed Tenten hadn't either.

Tenten smiled sheepishly. "Jamie? He's in Cello with me. Red hair, green eyes? He's got that adorable Irish accent? He's not too tall, though." But could he saw down a cello, it was beautiful. Besides, it wasn't like Jamie liked her - she might've been pretty, but there was no way a devout, Irish Catholic would consider dating a Chinese Taoist. It just didn't happen and she was just starting to come to terms with something else more dangerous. Thoughtful, Tenten blew on the coffee.

"Anyway, after this I've gotta go practice with Samuel," not Sam, never Sam. It had to be Samuel. Maybe he thought it sounded more professional? Tenten reined in her train of thought and looked back at Sakura, pushing her bangs from her eyes. It was getting time for a haircut. With her elbow on the table, she looked over Sakura's notes. "I am so excited," she trilled.

She wrapped her hands around her coffee cup, he sounded nice and Sakura nodded in approval. She watched Tenten for a moment, she seemed to have gotten lost in thought before perking up again.

Sakura's eyes widened a fraction another boy? Did Tenten have any other girlfriends? "Samuel!? Tenten, what is this. Do you have some sort of secret harem or something? If so let me in on it!" She laughed and nudged her friend before turning her attention to the sheets of paper scattered on the table in front of her. "I'm excited too. This is actually turning out really great. Did you like the song?" Hm, she supposed that it wouldn't be the song, more the lyrics. "Well, the lyrics and here's some of the ideas I had for the actual music." Sakura amended before pushing the ideas she'd scribbled down whatever inspiration struck her towards Tenten. Though she was not going to tell a soul what had inspired her, she knew Tenten already suspected, but she wasn't going to confirm anything.

Tenten drew her finger across the lines and hummed the little notations there before answering. "No, I don't have a harem, if I did, I wouldn't have so much trouble getting someone to sleep with me." Oh, the woes of virginity. "I could just point and say, 'You there! We're going to sleep together.' and then they'd do it," she chuckled. Tenten pulled Ramone out of his case and made sure the Hummingbird was in tune, not that it was hard. He was such a good boy. "Okay... so you want it to sound a little like..." Tenten fingered the strings and looked up at her friend for approval. "This?" The song, Tenten suspected, was about the falling-out Sakura had with Naruto. Anyone close to them could've chanced the guess and been correct, she imagined.

What a mess it seemed to have caused. It would be a good primer to be careful, considering her own delicate feelings that were blooming up. The ones that had no place in her heart, especially if Sakura was her friend. Tenten shifted in her seat and brought the notations up a step, a quiet suggestion as they worked.

Sakura giggled, "Yeah, yeah. They probably would. Why were you having a problem getting a boyfriend? They're practically raining down on you." If only she were that lucky. Some people just had all the luck, she felt they should lend her some even if it were for a few hours. She listened carefully as Tenten played and no that wasn't quite right, now that she was hearing it in person it wasn't the sound she had in mind. Sakura tapped her foot on the floor as Tenten played again, there. "That's it." And it was, exactly how she'd imagned it in her mind. "You're seriously a miracle worker."

If it kept going like this they were going to be done in record time. Sakura figured this would suit both of them just fine, maybe they'd be able to chat a bit after. It wasn't often she got to just relax and chat like a normal teenager. Plus, she trusted Tenten a fraction more than Ino to not blab (purposely or accidentally) about the things she would prefer to keep private. "Hey, did you have any other ideas?"

Tenten pursed her lips as she added the notations to their work, and took a sip of her coffee. "Well, I like the lyrics as-is but maybe we could add a little more to the music? I don't know." She sat back and played the song again. Is this what people felt when they made something of their own? Tenten decided that she... kind of liked it.

She stopped for a minute to sip her coffee again. "Now that we know where we're going, do you want to take a little break?" Miracle worker? Hardly. Tenten was just good at picking things out, and they had tomorrow to work on this too, bright and early. Simple as that.

Tenten's questions was answered with a nod of agreement, "Sounds great, I really didn't think too much about the music. I just started today." Sakura had a really good feeling about this, a really good feeling. The same feeling she had when she and Kakashi were making music together. "A break?" Already Tenten? Slacker." She laughed and leaned back in her chair and stretched, her back cracking loudly in protest of the movement. "Ahhhh~ So, what did you wanna talk about? Anything particular on your mind?"

There were a few things that Sakura wanted to mention, but there was really no way to bring it up. She didn't want to shock Tenten, she had shocked herself when she'd come to the conclusion about the situation at hand. Afterwards of course, she had felt good about it. Finally. So, then maybe it would be a good thing? She wasn't sure so she'd keep it all underwraps for now. Oh god, she was pretty much conversing with herself. Again.

Tenten's mouth opened, and the words that fell from it and the helter-skelter speed of them surprised her, "IthinkI'mfallingforNarutoandI'mreallyreallysorry,Sakura,Isuck." Tenten sat back and closed her mouth. She was the worst friend on the face of the planet. If she looked in a dictionary of villians, Hsiao, Tenten would be right under Hitler. She put her hands protectively over Ramone, as though the Hummingbird might save her. Fat chance of that.

.....

.....

"Really?" Sakura raised an eyebrow at Tenten looking at her, and she looked absolutely terrified. It was certainly a surprise, but really, Naruto was a very attractive, very charismatic person, very warm and loving person. Maybe it was only a small surprise. "Tenten, you're joking right?" Sakura tilted her head to the side waiting for Tenten to laugh and point at her for believing the words that had tumbled from her mouth so quickly Sakura wasn't sure if what she had heard was right at all. Somehow, even if it was true and she had heard correctly, she didn't feel weird about it. She didn't feel jealous, or angry. Which was completely unlike the time Tenten had announced that she was marrying Naruto. It was strange, a good strange. A very good strange. She really... didn't care.

"That's great. Naruto is such a nice guy." Well... no. No. She wasn't going to go there. "I bet he likes you too!" Sakura smiled brightly nodding her head. After all Naruto wouldn't have gone along with the whole marriage scheme if he didn't like Tenten in some way.

WAIT. Why was she okay with this? Tenten looked at Sakura, really looked, and saw no ulterior emotions waiting just below the surface. She wasn't mad, she wasn't ending their friendship... did the world just turn upside down? "You're okay with this?" she asked, agog. "I... I just didn't want to, you know, because..." Because the marriage thing was a sham, and above all else, you didn't fall in love with the guy that cheerfully agreed to marry you for something other than mutual affection. Tenten looked down and took a deep breath. She had to think clearer now that it was out in the open.

"You're really okay with it?" she asked again, disbelieving. Someone call Hard Copy.

"Huh? Of course I'm okay with it. Do you want me to be angry or something?" Sakura frowned slightly, she was agreeing with her friend. Was she not supposed to? "I don't see wha's wrong wih it? He's a nice guy and I think you guys would be totally cute together." Afterall, Sakura would prefer seeing Naruto with someone level-headed, intelligent, and not Anko someone that was incompetent, wild and completely out of her mind drunk.... Sakura scowled and then shook her head. How could Naruto not understand why she didn't like that ...ugh.

"In fact I think it's kinda spectacular, why wouldn't you want me knowing? You're so silly!" Sakura smiled brightly, nodding her head completely cheerful and unaffected by the entire situation. Why the heck was Tenten stressing out and flipping out? "Tenten, you really need to calm down a bit. You're freaking me out. It's just Naruto."

Sakura brushed some stray tendrils of hair behind her ear. Okay, it was seriously awkward now Tenten was staring at her like an alien had just popped out of her head or something.

"Tenten!"

Tenten looked down, put Ramone away, and laughed a little peal so relieved, it was sweet. Sakura didn't mind. And if Sakura didn't mind, then that meant it was alright. Tenten could muster up the balls to ask him seriously, instead of just playing a game. She wasn't the worst friend on the face of the planet, and all was well, great, wonderful, grand! A stone had been lifted off her stomach. With an excited squeak, she threw herself at Sakura and hugged her. "I am so glad!"

This was great! This was really great!

Sakura nodded her head. It really was great and she was happy too, this was really great. "I'm glad your glad. Why were you so worried anyhow?" She really didn't understand at all, she didn't like Naruto anymore.

....

And she just admitted it to herself. But, somehow subconsciously she knew for a while now. A long while now, and it just bubbled up because of what Tenten had just told her. It actually felt kind of good. "So hey... I guess that's what you wanted to talk to me about right?" Her laughter echoed in the room as she pulled away from her friend's embrace. "Somehow that was kinda intense wasn't it? Are you going to tell him? You should, you know try dating before getting married." Sakura stuck her tongue out playfully before smirking.

Tenten laughed and bowed her head. "Yeah, we should, shouldn't we?" Such a huge weight gone, and suddenly, her heart felt so light and good. Not only that, she had Sakura's benediction! "I'm going to ask him Monday, when I see him in class, and I have a little time to relax." Monday was a good day, and despite having six more practice sessions, work and other miscellaneous things to do, the little musician was certain that it would just blur by. "That sounds good, doesn't it?"

Sakura nodded her head in agreement. "Of course it sounds good! It sounds great in fact!" Glancing up at the clock Sakura looked to Tenten, "I think we should do some work now. Don't you have to practice with Samuel after this?" Unless Tenten had some questions for her, or she had questions for her.

Unconsciously Sakura chewed on her lip and looked past Tenten at the wall. Maybe she should let Naruto know...for sure for sure that she wasn't interested. Did she need to do that? She thought that it might be polite to do something like that, or maybe not. Relationships were so confusing, whether you were in one or not.
