I was just pondering the Drake Equation and had a little walk down memory lane again.

I remember how as a a kid I would (re)wind cassette tapes on my parents' stereo-system.

They were so old school that when you (re)winded tapes, the sensory head would (very faintly) emit the ultra-fast sound recorded on the tape that was (re)winded (it didn't come out of the speakers, just from the cassette compartment - just like if you turn a record under the needle in a player that is off, you'll hear the sound from the needle anyway).

I always knew it was just the music on the tape at speed × x, but the faint sound of high-speed synth melodies and my imagination formed a coalition and each time I would get caught up sitting there listening intently to the sounds emanating from the tape and pretending that I was hearing extra-terrestrial radio signals and that I had discovered something huge. It was so exciting! Just like all other imaginative mind-tricks I'd play with myself.

Around the age of 10 I remember at bedtime (particularly winter time) I'd open up the bedroom window before going to do my evening business in the bathroom, and when going back I'd sprinkle myself with cold water and walk into the freezing room, climb into bed, wrap myself tightly in my blanket and pretend that I was camping in the Antarctic. LoL.

Oh sweet memories. I did anything to escape the reality of my childhood circumstances, my quirks gave me enough of adrenaline kicks to keep on going <3 and they're pretty amusing, now in retrospect.
