If a tree falls down in the forest, does it make a sound?
Now, before you rush to an answer, think for a moment.
.....
I was sitting, WoWing when someone blurted this as a joke in a heated religious "discussion" in in the Trade Chat, and I suddenly got hit by a huge "a-HAH!"-experience.
Ever up til now I've always belonged to Team "well DUHH OF COURSE". Then I just casually thought what sound scientifically is and realised, "sound" as such (...sensation or what ever) does not exist without an ear to hear it. Up until that it is just air pressure/waves, which are THEN captured by the ear which with its mechanics transfers the information to our nerves and senses it as sound.
So no, it does not produce "sound" per se if there is no one there to hear it, living creature with working ears. And it came to me in WoW of all places LoL.
Then I thought that surely I can't be the first one to realise this, so I googled the riddle and found out that there is
A FUCKING WIKIPEDIA-ARTICLE about this.
And then, I suddenly didn't feel quite so special anymore :c
