I joined MSD Innovation Center in early 2016.
Since then I worked on 12 products, four of which were my core products as a designated designer.
On top of that, I had run 15+ projects of a smaller range, either a bigger solutions for major events such as workshops or conferences or minor solutions for various teams.
I earned two Outstanding Performance Awards from two different teams.
I got two education certificates from the Cooper’s, leaders in UX industry (
https://www.cooper.com):
- UX Design in Agile
- Design Leadership
Another course from Charles University, the Digital Health by Dr. Jan Novotny, is in progress right now.
Work overview
This year I was focusing primarily on Data-rich and Data-Centered Applications, both in their UX and Data Visualisation, across the organisational division with Manufacturing Business, Scientific Research & Business, Big Data and Application departments.
My second area of focus was evangelising UX and Innovation across the organisation.
Third area of my interest was dedicated to the design for Virtual reality and Augmented Reality (and, consequently, 3d design).
The rest of the time I spent on the organisational activities and support of our big (15 people) UX team as one of the seniors.
Processes
In our work we as a team are following a Design Thinking protocol, working hand in hand with the scrum masters to support and advance maturity of the scrum tempo in the development & stakeholders teams.
Platforms
This year my work revolved around web-based applications and, in a small extent, iOS.
Tools
I got very used to work in Adobe XD, as a tool that is both seamlessly integrated with Photoshop & Illustrator, which I use a lot, and allows for advanced visual design that is often required from Data Visualisation-heavy apps. XD is not the ultimate tool when it comes to interaction design prototyping, but it has a basic functionality to build the interactive prototypes, which is a good balance of pro’s and cons for me.
My other tools were: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Animation, InDesign, Blender, Unity.
My highlights of the year and of my job
- We are not a technology company, we are part of a pharmaceutical company, and there is plenty of various business to learn about and from.
- We as designers and innovators work very close to the business and I love it.
- I would rate the culture in MSD GIN Prague as 8 out of 10 (which is a high rating for me) for such a big organisation.
- We strive to work with a startup mindset while remembering our special context.
- Our team of designers is extremely capable and I like to be a part of it.
