I assure you, Mrs. Adams, for some of us, the ladies were quite well in mind.

I suppose it all eventually turned out for the best.

My dear Friend. I should of course have qualified the statement, but I fear I could not within the constraint presented by the required number of words. For many, certainly, the ladies were not well in mind, but I had every faith they were within your thoughts.

Eventually, yes. How odd that a word meant to comfort so frequently carries a sting. The ladies were remembered... eventually.

Likewise, the abomination of slavery was abolished eventually, and the deep divisions between North and South were reconciled eventually. Perhaps change may only come about in delay from its appropriate time.

Perhaps this is true.

Perhaps delay seems less appropriate when one is part of those who wish the immediate comfort rather than... "eventually".

Now now, we all know it's quite impossible to forget the finer sex.

Must they? And here I thought your eyes were made of sterner stuff.

Now I am more certain than ever that they do not. Though years may have passed, my dear Mr. Monroe, I cannot think of any other man so ready to comment upon the eyes--or other attributes--of any woman.
