Dreamwidth

May 01, 2009 16:11

I'm 7veils at dreamwidth if anyone is interested in friending me there. The freedom from advertisements impressed me very much, feeling as I do about the value of content. I have invested in a paid account, although I'm not sure how I will use it at this stage.

I wish I knew how to customize the CSS. I would like to change the layout to something which reflects my aesthetics a little more.

Good! I would be most bereft if you didn't. Bereft is the word to use.

I didn't see the permanent account option. Hrm...

Of course, I'm the try-before-I-buy kind of girl, so I just bought a two month subscription for now.

The thought of no ads though, is very appealing, I agree.

And I'm still seegrim over there as well. :)

There has been so much talk about dreamwidth lately. What made you decided to make the jump? Curious.

Mainly because it's focused around content providers, not advertisers. Because I've been watching my revenues dwindle as people start pumping out poorly conceived, ill-researched articles on various aggregate wiki-style sites (suite 101, digg it, etc.), I've seen the demand for thoughtful, conscious writing and interviews in the spirit of shared inspiration, healing and happiness dwindle, a process which has sped up over the past two decades, but really went ballistic after the internet bubble. So, I resent the hell out of organizations which plunk advertising sales on top of these sweat shops, and THEN start placing restrictions on what writers can write based on what the advertisers say ( ... )
