GG 5.16
So I succumbed and watched Gossip Girl 5.16 after the buzz from everyone about how good it was. I have to say I was delighted with what I saw, however I didn't let myself get to excited because:
1. This is GG - the analogy "one foot in the grave" comes to mind
2. The video is still looming over Dan
3. Serena and that look at the end (I don't know why Blair did that with Serena there though, it bugs me).
The good
1. Dan - I liked that Dan spelt it out to Blair, I think it was more of frustration that made him act like that. Not that I'm excusing his behaviour, he could have been a bit nicer when telling Blair what he wanted. But again, Blair and her it was like patting a dog, it means nothingisms must have made him really mad. Plus her continuous chimes of we are friends, this is what friends do.
2. Blair's - As I haven't seen much of Season 5 I was surprised at how really comfortable Blair is with Dan, especially when they were sitting down together, she sat really close to him and offered to hold his hand. She was really handsy too (poor Dan such torture). Her comfortability (and openness) with Dan really hit home to me when she came in after her fight with Serena and said "Humphrey I need a friend" in a whiny voice.
3. Dan and Blair - Need I say more.
4. Chuck - I don't like or condone what he did at all. However, as a character I prefer Chuck being like this (i.e. a pantomime villain) than all that emo stuff they've been pushing at us. This reminds me of Chuck a la Season 1 before he discovered metaphoric butterflies and Blair. Chuck is that uncle or relative most people have who is the dark sheep of the family, always doing crazy things and never marries - just has a string of girlfriends.
5. Serena - Backing out (for now). I think Serena has had a some time to get to grips with the fact that this might happen since Season 4. She may have refused to accept it in the past hence holding onto Dan, however I think seeing Cece in the hospital made her realise that life is too short.
The bad
1. Why oh why did Blair kiss Dan in front of Serena? That just seemed like a mean thing to do!
2. The video
3. As much as I liked Dan being upfront with Blair, I didn't like the fact that he said he didn't want to be her friend and if they couldn't be more than friends he didn't want to see her anymore, ouch!
4. Blair's Epiphany - I mean really? It was definitely full of the cheese factor! But I'm glad she finally had one.
5. Cece - Why? PS: I hope Ivy doesn't inherit all the money.
The I don't know
I don't know if I'm going to watch the other episodes, from what people have said most of Season 5 has not been really good and only 5.15 and 5.16 are the good ones. However, if GG continues being this good (i.e. like 5.16) I might buy the boxset at the end of the Season.
