.There's a new drug out called 'bourne' that enables men to get pregnant, but that's not all it does, it also kills them. Yunho and Yoochun are on the case to stop this deadly drug before it gets anymore out of hand, and spreads throughout Asia.
.author's note: this is the chapter that sort of gets the ball rolling. so to speak. this chapter had been heavily edited.

Yoochun closed his phone once he ended his conversation with Yunho. All he felt was numb. And he wondered when had this game become so personal, in such a short span of time? It hadn't even been a week since they'd been to Gypsy to see Heechul. Hangeng was standing out in the hallway with him, looking ashen. Yoochun clamped his hand on his shoulder.
"Yunho is heading back to the station with Jaejoong, I want you to go get Heechul and wait for me there."
"How long will you be?"
"I don't know. But tell Yunho not to wait for me, anything you guys discuss you can relay to me when I get there, all right?"
Hangeng nodded his head, then pushed him-self off the wall, already pulling out his phone. He wasn't really sure how he was going to get to Heechul, his car was at the station and he didn't want Heechul driving in his condition. As if reading his mind, Yoochun called out to him. Hangeng caught the keys clumsily, giving Yoochun a wide-eyed stare.
"I'm letting you borrow it, I'll just catch the bus to the station." Without waiting for a response he walked back into the room that occupied Junsu, the younger man stirring slightly from his rest. He was hooked up to all kinds of machines; one to monitor his heart, the IV in his arm just in case they needed to extract more blood from him as well as an IV in which a sedative slowly dripped. It worked more as a calming agent, on the off chance that Junsu awoke in a paranoid state.
Yoochun sat down on the edge of his bed and took his hand, moving some idle strands of hair from Junsu's forehand.
"Hey, Su-su, are you feeling a little better?" Junsu swallowed around the dryness in his mouth before speaking.
"I don't know... I still feel awful, but I can't really remember what happened. The last thing I remember is talking to you and then everything just sort of went dark." He looked around him, his eyes widening slightly. "Am I in a hospital?"
"You fainted Su-ah, but you're only going to be here for one night so they can monitor you. They're going to release you tomorrow morning."
Junsu met Yoochun's eyes, his expression a little scared. Yoochun squeezed his hand tighter, his jaw tightening. "Is there something wrong with me?"
It wasn't something that Yoochun wanted to tell him, but he knew Junsu would find out eventually. And to leave out anything to protect him would just undermine what they have and what a relationship is based upon: honesty, trust and communication. Junsu didn't really freak out, his expression hardly changing as Yoochun explained that he was pregnant, because of a drug called 'Bourne' (the new case drug he was working on) and it's side effects. The only thing he did was hold Yoochun's hand tighter, to the point that Yoochun wondered if there was even any blood circulating through his fingers.
Junsu turned his head away once Yoochun had finished. "There's no other way? I'll have to carry it to full term and delivery, won't I?"
Yoochun nodded his head. "It looks like it, abortion is too risky at the moment, since we don't know what this drug is capable of."
"But isn't carrying it to full term possibly dangerous too?"
"We're not sure... it hasn't even been a week since we found out about this. We don't even know how many people are infected, why they're being affected or what the long term complications may be. Everything is just happening so fast."
Junsu looked back at him and gave him a waning smile.
"I'm not scared." And it was those three words that broke Yoochun. The tears seemed to burst out of him, from where there had been none. Him an Junsu had been together for quite awhile and he just felt like the biggest bastard as he realized how much he had taken Junsu and his unwavering love for granted. The possibility that he might lose him was too much.
"I'm sorry Junsu... for being such a lousy boyfriend. You deserve someone so much better than me." Yoochun was now resting his forehead on Junsu's stomach, his tears staining the white sheet pulled over his body. Junsu shook his head (even though Yoochun couldn't see), running his fingers through Yoochun's long wavy brown hair.
"You're not a lousy boyfriend Yoochun-ah, and you won't be a lousy father either."
Yoochun lifted his head up and stared deeply into Junsu's eyes. The younger man looked tired, but he was still smiling. Yoochun's heart was so full, full of a determination that had been absent before this point. He had a responsibilty now, to take of Junsu as well as their unborn child. If this drug was deadly, he wasn't going to let it kill Junsu, Jaejoong, or anyone else. And he sealed that promise with a kiss, that Junsu more than willingly accepted.
Yunho and Jaejoong made it to the station in record time. Donghae pulling up behind them in their second car. Yunho opened Jaejoong's door, taking his hand and helping him out. Jaejoong smiled, loving Yunho's tendency to be overly protective. Donghae was at the moment looking around the parking lot for Kibum's car, though when he didn't see it, he just turned away and led the way inside the police station. It wasn't as busy as if normally was, as most of the officers were on cases or responding to emergency calls.
Yunho, as well as Donghae were surprised to see Kangin and Onew loitering outside the door of Rain's empty office. Yunho whispered to Donghae to head to his an Yoochun's office, and to tell the rookies that he was on his way. He then looked at Jaejoong, unsure.
"I can go with Donghae if you want me to," Jaejoong suggested, squeezing Yunho's hand in understanding. Yunho only shook his head and walked over to the other two police officers, Kangin looking a bit relieved to see him. Though there was something off about him that worried Yunho.
"Kangin-shi, do you need to see the boss?"
"Yea... I have to tell him something very important, but it doesn't look like he's here." That in itself was unusual, because Rain was always there, if only to make sure everyone else was present and doing their jobs. "You're in narcotics right, Jung?" Kangin asked suddenly.
"It's Yunho, hyung, and yes, I'm in narcotics."
Kangin looked over his shoulder at Onew, who just shrugged. After having a short internal monologue with him-self, Kangin nodded his head brushing pass Yunho and Jaejoong barking at Onew from over his shoulder to follow him.
"I can tell you this then, where is your office?"
Kangin didn't expect them to have an audience once they got there though. He turned to look at Yunho:
"Why are they in your office?"
"They're part of the case, even Donghae. They're the new rookies that have been assigned to help me and Yoochun out, oh, I should tell you what it is. Come on, Jae." Yunho led Jaejoong into the office giving him his seat. Jaejoong gave them bright smiles (betraying nothing), even though he was a mess of emotions on the inside. Minho looked smitten, but Baro and Kyuhyun just smiled back politely.
"Just sit down anywhere, I have to brief the case with these three so we can get started on it immediately." Kangin and Onew didn't sit, they just stood by the door as if they were gaurding it. Yunho pointed from one Kyuhyun to Baro to Minho asking them to introduce themselves, before he laid everything out for them, not leaving out a single detail. As was the reaction whenever Yunho had to tell of the case to anyone, there was silence.
Minho's eyes were even wider than they normally were, Baro's mouth was hanging off the hinges and Kyuhyun looked so troubled, Yunho wanted to ask him if he needed a moment to compose him-self. They didn't have the time to be gobsmacked, it was now the time to act. There were too many men getting infected, and if they were going to nip this in the bud while they still had time, they were going to need to find the source. How was the drug being transmitted?
While Yunho waited for the rookies (and tried not to think too hard about why Kangin and Onew looked like they already knew) to let the severity of the situation settle in. He allowed him-self a moment to think about the how? Because before he could think about why, he had to answer the how and who questions. Just how were these men getting infected? It seemed to be a concentrated act. As in the people getting infected weren't at random, but specifically chosen. However, why were they chosen and why did they all have an police officer as an significant other?
Kangin coughed, making them all either look at him, or turn to look at him.
"I have something to add to this, but I don't think it's something that any of you want to hear," he then looked directly at Yunho. "Especially not you." Yunho's brow furrowed and he found him-self suddenly looking at Jaejoong who had gone pale.
"Myself and Onew responded to a call yesterday night, it was from Taebin, head of homicide. His friend had died and he suspected it was murder. The thing is the man, Choi Dongwook, died after giving birth to him and Taebin's child; during the c-section he suffered a fatal heart attack and bled out, he died almost instantly."
Hangeng made his way over to the passenger's side door. Heechul had already opened it, resolute on getting out him-self, but Hangeng took his hand anyway and wrapped his arm around his waist.
"Are you sure you're up for this?"
"I'm sure. I want to know as much about this drug as I possibly can. All I know right now are the basics. I'm farther along then the other victims, so I'm in more danger." Hangeng looked positively sick after that. The two men heard a door slam and turned to see a cupid-faced man rushing toward the station, though he stopped when he saw them.
"Heechul-hyung?" Kibum was out of breath. He then looked down at Heechul's protruding stomach. "... Donghae was telling the truth...?"
"Of course he was!" Heechul snapped, catching on to his train of thought. "You can follow us, Hangeng knows where we're going."
Donghae was the first to speak, his voice shaking. "So, he died while giving birth?"
"Technically he died during the c-section. We're not sure if it's related to this drug or not, but considering the possibilities, we are treating this as a murder case."
"Wait a minute," Baro cut in, trying to focus his thoughts. "Men are getting pregnant? That's what this is about?" Suddenly deskwork sounded a lot more appealing. He'd thought they were going to be doing something normal, like a drug bust. Baro touched his stomach wondering if it were an airborne patheon and if he was infected too, I mean they did say men, right? He was certainly male.
"Yes," Yunho sighed. "That is what this case is about, but before you start running to the nearest clinic, I should tell you all that from the small amount of witness testimony we have gathered, this drug is a lot more specific. It doesn't seem random at all."
"Are you saying whoever is behind this is targeting a specific concentration of men?" It was Onew, and everyone focused on him. He hardly ever spoke, so when he did they were amazed at how articulate he was. Any other day Onew could be seen tripping all over the place, much to Kangin's annoyance.
"Yes,"
"I have a theory," Onew began, stepping out from his place against the wall. Kangin watching him skeptically. "Jaejoong-shi is pregant and so is Donghae-hyung, except Jaejoong-shi doesn't work here yet hyung does."
"Where are you going with this?" Kangin wondered. He wasn't use to Onew being so alert and direct, in this light he seemed more like someone who lead instead of the other way around. Onew was holding his chin, trying to piece his thoughts together. He'd been thinking about this ever since last night. The talk they'd had with Taebin, going back to the police station to find that Rain had left early, then going home to find Key with his head in the toilet; crying food poisoning.
Onew had gotten no sleep as he worriedly stared up at the ceiling, with Key curled up against him, sleeping fitfully. Key was flamboyant, but he wasn't stupid and contrary to popular belief, he didn't go out. He hated clubs and social gatherings, he'd much rather stay at home and either dote or boss Onew around. And all their other joint friends. So, he wondered, thinking of what Taebin had told him and Kangin with sincerity, if he were pregnant (and there was a huge possibility he was), how the hell had the drug gotten into his system?
"I'm saying... maybe, the answer is right in front of our faces."
There was a sudden knock on the door and Kangin, who was nearest, opened it. Hangeng, Heechul and Kibum filed into the room. Donghae rising from his seat, immediately running into Kibum's arms, who held him tightly.
"Are you all right?" Kibum asked against his hair. Donghae wanted to say no, because he really wasn't. However, being in Kibum's embrace, he felt safe. So, he told him he was. They were all (with the exception of Yunho, Donghae, Kibum and Hangeng) staring at Heechul openly. Jaejoong standing from his chair and walking over to Heechul, running his pale fingers along his stomach in amazement.
"This is insane..." Baro whispered. Kyuhyun, who was struck mute, looked down. His mind stuck on his earlier conversation with Changmin: "I--I'm, I'm not fine Kyuhyun-ie..." Could it be?
"Onew-ah is on to something," Yunho said after every one had settled down. Jaejoong giving his seat to the very pregnant Heechul and going over to stand beside Yunho, who pulled him down on to the table, so he wouldn't be standing up. "Go on, I would like to hear what your theory is."
Onew nodded, suddenly a lot more self conscious now that everyone's eyes were on him. However, this was something that needed to be said, so he put his unease behind him and continued.
"OK. Um... there has to be a reason why the people with a connection to the force are suddenly afflicted with this... 'Bourne'--" Kangin cut him off.
"Are you saying the officers have something to do with this?" Yunho had also been thinking along those lines and he wasn't the only one: Minho, who still had that deer in the headlights look on his face, was on the edge of his seat. His mind going to the breakroom for some reason.
"Just hear me out hyung... I'm not sure if I'm right or not, but it makes sense. All the people that have been named either work for the department or is with someone who does."
"He's right," Heechul intervened, his brown eyes flashing. "I knew about Dongwook, he came to gypsy a few months back..." He gave Yunho an appologetic stare. "I didn't tell you this, because he told me not too, and I wanted to respect his privacy. This was before I found out that I was too. So, he was three or four months along by that point."
(Dongwook stumbled over to the bar looking upset and sick, though Heechul couldn't remember serving him any alchohol and he was the only one working behind the bar today. Had he come in already drunk?
"Hey," Heechul touched his arm, pulling back when the tips of his fingers met the heat of Dongwook's skin. He was burning up. Heechul made his way out from behind the bar and held the other man up, his head swaying dangerously on his shoulders. His face whiter than snow. "Hey, are you OK?"
He asked while pulling him up, putting one of Dongwook's arms around his shoulder and wrapping his free arm around his waist. He trudged threw the crowd, yelling at people to get out of his way. Dongwook looked seconds away from blowing chunks all over Heechul and the dancefloor. They made it to the men's room and Heechul kicked the door open, rushing over to the nearest empty stall and just in time, because as soon as Dongwook's knees met the ground, he vomited.)
"I waited for him to stop for nearly five straight minutes, wondering if he had the stomach flu or something. It was terrible."
(Heechul helped him over to the sink, where he washed Dongwook's mouth out.
"... thank you." Dongwook muttered, his voice hoarse. There were tears falling down his cheeks. He stumbled and Heechul moved his hand to the man's stomach to brace his fall, only to be met with a rather large bump. Heechul couldn't explain it, but the minute his hand met Dongwook's stomach a severe shiver shot down his spine, paralyzing him for a moment. Dongwook laughed, darkly.
"I shouldn't burden you like this, but I want to tell you something that I'm afraid to tell anyone else."
Then why do you want to tell me!? Heechul shouted inside of his head. But he waited for the other man to continue, wondering why his heart was about to beat itself out of his chest.)
"Dongwook told me that no one knew, not even the father." Heechul looked like he was on the verge of tears. "Before I called for him a cab, after he absolutely refused to let me call an ambulance, he told me: 'I left this time' and I didn't really get what he meant by that. Anyways, it was the first and last time I saw him. And it's really the only reason why I remember his name. Not long after I began feeling the same symptons he described, but I was in a state of denial and wouldn't go see a doctor until I had no other choice."
"This is really heavy," Minho breathed after a beat. He was thinking about Taemin and how he hadn't really been feeling well lately. How sick he'd been to the point of having to miss a whole week of school. It was all beginning to make sense, but at the same time it didn't make any sense at all.
"So... there's a connection to the department," Donghae voiced, looking from one face to the other, though he was talking to Onew. "Do you really believe that someone inside of the station is behind this?" It was an explosive accusation, but not one they could refute. Jaejoong looked at Yunho, who was now sporting a rather severe look.
"That's ridicolous," Yunho exclaimed, before Onew could even open his mouth to confirm or deny it. "What the hell could the police force possibly gain from impregnanting men? It's ludacris!"
"Is it?" Heechul argued, looking like he wanted to get up out of his chair. "I don't have any needle marks, so it's not being injected into me. I don't drink anything I don't specifically make myself and I doubt any one of the other victims are as stupid as to make that mistake either. Even so we've been infected with this drug somehow, either through ingesting it or..."
"Or what?" Yunho demanded. Heechul bit the inside of his cheek. It was only a theory, but it was the most plausible one.
"... or through sex."
Tablo was on the second floor of the building, looking through his shades out at the evening sky. The parking lot was empty, save for a few nondescript vehicles scattered here or there. It was also not very busy inside the station, but he knew by the time night fell that would change. In the mean-time he was free to carry out his actions without fear of being caught. He shut his shades and turned towards his desk, pulling out one of the drawers and taking out a box. A key was used to open it.
He retrieved a small bottle from inside it that held a dozen or so capsules. The tape slapped crudely onto the front of it read: 'Bourne'. There was knock on his door that drew his eyes away from the pill bottle, recognizing who it was, he smirked. Seo In Young, was right on time, as usual. In Young stepped inside, her black heels clacking across the floor as she sashayed over to him, giving him a beaming smile.
"You wanted to see me sir?"
"Are you on your way to make the coffee?"
She nodded. "I am, the break room is all out, so it's best if I refill it before the boys get back. They're going to definitely need it." In Young spotted the bottle in his hands. "Ah, I see."
Tablo opened the bottle and tapped out about four pills. "I want you to make sure you're alone, you almost got caught last time. Also, these don't dissolve, so break them open and stir. These are a lot stronger."
In Young's smile became rather thin. "Does that mean they're more dangerous?"
"I don't know, but we'll find out, won't we?"
Tablo dropped the pills into her hand as she coo'd at him. "You're so bad. I'll see you after hours, right?"
"Of course baby, no good deed shall go un-rewarded."
... and no sinners shall go un-punished.
