author's note: I wanted to make this chapter longer, but felt as if I should end it there since the next couple chapters will be much longer as this story will be wrapping up very soon. It's been a long time coming, but I am back in the groove of things, expect updates to my previous fics over the next few days as well as perhaps a new series and some one-shots. Enjoy!

.IX, PART II.
Tablo chewed on his food slowly, the look on his face one of utter distraction. Mithra was sitting on the edge of the couch blocking half of the news report on the television from Tablo's view. Hyejeong picked at her food, the atmosphere around the table was uncomfortable and she kept glancing across the table at her husband wanting to relay her discomfort to him, but realizing with a saddened heart that he frightened her.

The ringing of Tablo's cell broke the silence. Tablo blinked his eyes. Mithra was no longer sitting on the edge of the couch and his wife was now staring at him like he was a complete stranger.

"Hello?"

"Tablo sir?" It was Taecyeon. "I have reason to believe that Hyunjoong-hyung has turned on our cause."

"How are you feeling?" Jaejoong asked Junsu while moving the other man's fringe from in front of his eyes. Junsu was holding Jaejoong's hand while staring up at the ceiling in a state of tired confusion.

"I don't really know how I'm supposed to feel after finding out I'm pregnant. I also think that there is something that Yoochun-ah and Yunho-hyung aren't telling us about all of this."

Jaejoong nodded his head. "I have the same feeling. Of course this is all impossible and I want answers as well, but the expression on Yunho's face when I told him and then..."

Jaejoong squeezed Junsu's hand tighter.

"Did Yoochun-ah by any chance tell you that this could kill us?"

Junsu's head jerked in Jaejoong's direction and he sat-up a little, shocked.

"What?"

"I take it he didn't... look, Yunho-ah is content on shielding me from this whole thing, even though I am now directly involved in it as are you. I say we do a little investigating of our own and get to the bottom of this before it's too late."

It sounded like a brilliant idea to Junsu, but how were they going to do that when the hospital staff was dead-set on keeping him cooped up in his room for another night?

The door opened at that moment and an employee delivering Junsu's dinner strolled into the room. He gave them an odd stare when he took note of the two of them laid up in the bed together. Jaejoong narrowed his eyes and sat all the way up. The man appeared to be mumbling something under his breath as he sat Junsu's dinner off to the side before picking up his lunch tray.

"Did you say something?" Jaejoong asked, a dangerous edge to his voice.

The man looked over at Jaejoong, he appeared to be a couple years younger than him and Junsu, perhaps even younger than Changmin.

"I said the both of you are going to hell."

Junsu stiffened violently, but Jaejoong only laughed, a humorless, dark laugh.

"On whose orders? Yours?"

"I know what you are," the man continued, his mouth twisting into a pained grin. "You're gays and this is retribution from the Highest Power for your sins."

"What is retribution?" Jaejoong spat back at him.

"I'm going to let you in on a little secret since the both of you seem to be ignorant on the situation that is unfolding around you. We just got an huge influx of male patients in critical condition, some having tried to kill themselves and others who have begun to mysteriously cough up huge amounts of blood to the point of unconsciousness. And do you know what they all have in common?"

Jaejoong just glared back at him.

"They're all gays and they're all pregnant."

Rain was in the driver's seat, Yunho in the passenger's an Yoochun and Hyori in the back. Yoochun found his seating arrangement to be the most trying as every time he glanced over at Hyori a fresh stream of tears were falling down her cheeks. He sighed and thought of Junsu, his fists clenching in his lap.

It was obvious that Hyori had just been a willing pawn. Whoever the mastermind was behind all this was one cruel son of a bitch and he couldn't wait to get his hands on him.

Rain pulled the squad car into the precincts parking lot ordering Yoochun to bring Hyori into the station and to his office. He wouldn't even look at her. Hyori closed her eyes and bit back a sob. Yunho climbed out of the passenger's seat and immediately narrowed his eyes. A huge surge of unease had suddenly struck him and he pulled his gun out of it's holster cocking it back. Yoochun heard the click and gave Yunho a 'what the fuck?' look from over Hyori's bowed head.

"Let's hurry up and get into the--"

A shot rang out and Hyori let out a scream before falling into Yoochun's body. Rain swerved around, watching in stunned confusion as Hyori fell to her knees, her blouse now stained with her own blood.

"Oh shit!" Yoochun cursed, his head flying in every which direction. "We have to get her back to the hospital! Yunho, help me!"

Rain rushed over to the scene to help as well, Hyori grabbing his wrist as he bent over to lift her by the waist in an attempt to shield her from anymore oncoming bullets.

"Search the perimeter," he ordered. "I will take care of this."

The two nodded quickly and rushed off to do just that, Yoochun pulling his own gun out as he did so.

Hyori was breathing shallowly now clinging to Rain's shirt.

"Come on, we have to get you to the hospital quickly before you bleed to death." Hyori shook her head and refused to let Rain lift her up, her small body suddenly a dead weight in his arms.

"Don't be stupid, are you that ashamed of what you have done that you're ready to die? Well, I won't give you the satisfaction!"

Hyori laughed, a dry laugh, a line of blood falling from her lips. Rain's heart stuttered in his chest. His wife was dying. Junki was gone, murdered and now his wife was about to be gone as well. A growl of anger escaped his throat as he lifted her up bridle style, a shallow mist of tears in front of his eyes.

"It's too late for me," Hyori revealed weakly. "I'll be dead before you make it back to the hospital. Ah... this is so cliche, but I just want to know, I love you, I'm sorry and... Tablo..."

Hyori suddenly went limp in his arms and Rain knew she was gone. He stumbled backwards into his squad car before slumping down onto the ground. Rain pressed his face into Hyori's soft brown hair and cried.

"I'm going to take off the cuffs, try anything slick and I will kill you, understood?" Yeseob nodded his head. Hyunjoong grabbed his shoulder and pulled him up. They had wasted too much time talking and now it was imperative that they get out of there.

Hyunjoong turned toward the door and stilled suddenly when he saw Mithra standing there. The older man moved his lips in a silent order:

"Get out."

Hyunjoong heard the screeching of car tires from down below. It was obvious that Taecyeon, the bastard, had snitched on him. He grabbed Yeseob's arm and pulled him quickly toward the only exit out of the room.

"There is a back way out, follow me and be quick about it."

Kyuhyun was rubbing his thumb over Changmin's hand, the other man was still unconscious, but thankfully out of the danger zone. Kyuhyun pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes. He was exhausted, but his mind was running a mile a minute. How could this have happened? It made no sense. What was the point of it all? Who was behind all this?

Heechul said that it could possibly be the very force he was working for, but why the hell would law enforcement want to in-pregnate and brutally murder gay men? What could they possibly gain?

There was a rush of commotion outside of the hospital room and Kyuhyun stood up, walked over to the door and threw it open. A gurney carrying the pale body of a young man rushed passed him, a few seconds later Minho, looking beyond frantic hurried by.

"Minho!" Kyuhyun called. The younger man whirled around, realization dawning on his face when he recognized Kyuhyun. "What's going on?"

"It's Taemin-ie..." Minho answered, as he tried to figure out whether he should linger and explain the situation to Kyuhyun or go follow off after his sick boyfriend. "Why are you here?"

"Changmin-ah, he tried to kill himself, did yours do the same?"

Minho's brow furrowed and he shook his head. "No, I'm not sure about all the details at the moment, but they're telling me that he fainted. However, when I looked at him as they were taking him out the school I noticed that Taemin-ie had blood around his mouth."

Kyuhyun looked startled at this bit of information, but was unable to respond because another barrage of gurney's, EMC's and frantic nurses were speeding down the hallway. Kyuhyun peeped another young man, who was as pale as a ghost, he looked to still be conscious but was in a lot of pain. After him was someone they both recognized, Mir, and he was covered in blood.

"Mir!?" Kyuhyun shouted off after them, Minho shouting over his shoulder that he would talk to him later before disappearing off down the hallway to either go see about his own boyfriend or Mir.

What the hell is going on?

Kyuhyun couldn't help but think to him-self as he stood dumbfounded in the doorway of Changmin's room. Kibum and Donghae appeared, Donghae looking a bit ill as he leaned against Kibum for support.

"Kyuhyun-ah? What are you doing here?" Kibum asked.

Kyuhyun shook his head. "What happened to Mir?"

Kibum took the bait. "We aren't sure. Donghae found him collapsed in his own blood in one of the station's bathrooms, he shouted for me to come help him. I'm going to have them admit Donghae and then go check on him." He fixed Kyuhyun with a piercing stare.

"This is getting out of hand, please try to figure something out before it's too late for all of them."

Yoochun and Yunho secured the building, scaling every inch of it, but whoever had shot Hyori was long gone now. They ran back over to Rain, stopping before they reached him when they realized with great dread that their star witness was dead.

"FUCK!" Yoochun exclaimed, stamping his foot down on the ground. Yunho just sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. Rain still had his face pressed into Hyori's hair, breathing in the scent of the peach shampoo she had used on it that morning.

Rain's whole world had shattered around him in a matter of hours. He was now not only going to have to bury the love of his life, Junki, but the only woman he had ever loved, Hyori. She never believed it, but he did love her, once.

"Call the coroner," Rain's voice was still gruff, but brittle, like dry seaweed. "I have a lead." He had to be strong for the his daughter now, as well as to see that whoever did this be brought to justice. "Our next stop is Tablo's house."

(They had already taken Dong-wook's body down to the morgue. He was going to be buried either before the week was out or at the very beginning of the next one. Taebin had taken a leave from work in order to mourn and had been for the past couple of days drinking heavily to self-medicate.

Taebin's cellphone rung and for a short moment he just stared at it, recognizing the number as being that of Dong-wook's former girlfriend.

"Yes?"

"You should come and see him, he's your son and you need to be there for him now. It's what... it's what Dong-wook would want."

"How are you so sure? It's because of me that's he's dead now."

"Stop this!" Hanbyul shouted from over the phone. "It is not your fault, how could you have even known? I know you loved him with all your heart and I know you wouldn't have wanted him to die in such a way. You gave him up for me didn't you? Please, come and see your son, be there for him. I will help you, you don't have to endure this alone."

Taebin could hear the tears in her voice and it pained him. Hanbyul was right, this wasn't going to help bring Dong-wook's murderer to justice nor would it heal his broken heart.

"All right, I will see him... thank you."

Hanbyul sounded relieved, then told him she would contact him later as the hospital was now very busy at the moment with new trauma patients and they needed her assistance. Taebin closed his cellphone and just sat there for a second. He was so caught up in his feelings of unease that when his doorbell rung he actually jumped.

The man standing on the other side was someone who use to be on the police force, but re-signed over a year ago under mysterious circumstances. Dong Youngbae. He had once been bright and full of youthful enthusiasm, Taebin hardly recognized the broken shell of a man standing in front of him.

"Youngbae-ah?"

Youngbae didn't answer, just fished around in his pocket and pulled out a picture of a rather eccentric looking man. The male looked to be smiling widely, but his eyes spoke of unbearable sadness.

"I know what happened to Dong-wook-hyung, the same thing happened to my... best-friend... Kwon Jiyong."

Taebin's eyebrows drew inward. He remembered reading an article a few months back about some super popular fashion designer dying suddenly. It was no doubt this guy in the picture.

"If I caught you at a bad time I'm sorry, but ever since his death I have been conducting my own investigation into the cause behind it. You may already know about the pregnancy part, but the reason behind it is far more sinister. Do you wish to know the truth?"

Of course I do.

Had he said that out loud, or just thought it? Either way Youngbae went on:

"Then let us start from the beginning.")
