I write this since I feel inspired to do so. I have no soapbox to stand upon, nor point to make. Which somehow insinuates that I should be writing nothing.
It's just that some things I have heard or read today stirred something inside me. Or maybe that was the Coke talking.
It was announced today that the government advises all people living in hurricane prone areas to make preparations to support themselves for up to a week in the event of an emergency. Between the lines: We can't help you... I almost laughed in the middle of my office. I still think it's funny that personal responsibility has taken a flying leap...
Also read that Bill Gray (of hurricane prediction fame) had officially lost all of his funding and now has to pay for his science himself. Makes me sad to see what my future may look like if I stray away from the follow-the-leader, lockstep approach to modern science. It worries me since I am an out-of-the-box kind of thinker, and rarely afraid to speak freely. I long for the days of free idea exchange and educated debate.
On tap for the weekend, baseball! Oh, come on, like you're surprised... Two, count them TWO, Rays games this weekend which will make a lovely end to the three day interagency hand holding session I have just been part of. I get to have Bella's more than once in a year. Now this is worth celebrating. Mission to accomplish this weekend: find something new to do in the greater Tampa/St. Pete area.
Wish me luck boys and girls.
Also, if you're at the game, I'll be in my usual. Section 311, Row A, seats 13 and 14. Stop in and say hi. Or send me flowers...
