"Please, Ms. Foster! You can't do this to us, okay? It's not fair!!"
"Mr. Park. I don't give you some kind of evil demon baby, okay? He's just a new student..."
Jay was close to begging, close to falling on his knees. He doesn't want to share his and Taekyeon's university apartment with a stranger. When Taekyeon patted his shoulder, he sighed.
"Okay, we'll try to be nice to him..."
"That's great, Mr. Park. I'm sure he'll be happy to have some friends here, since he's new~ "
"I never said we're going to be friends."
"Mr. Park..."
"Okay, okay. What's his name again?"
- - -
"N- Nichkhun Hor... Hor... veja... vejkul? Nichkhun Horvejkul? That's not even a real name, seriously Taek! Where is he from, India?!"
"Maybe he's a nice guy...", Taekyeon said, but Jay just scoffed.
"He's probably some rich indian snob or something like that... He can't even speak Korean! Why the hell did he come to Korea then?!"
"To learn it here?"
"He could also learn it at home in Bagdad and not here."
"Bagdad is not India, Jay."
"Whose friend are you, huh?"
- - -
"What are you doing, Jay?"
"Moving my stuff into the empty room."
"Why?"
"It's my room now, because I don't want this new guy to have the room between our rooms..."
"You wanna be closer to me~ ?"
"Back off, homo man."
- - -
"When did Ms. Foster say he's going to arrive here?"
"In two days."
"Already? Ah, shit."
"Do you already miss him, Jay?"
"Holy shit now, I don't even want him here, okay? You better help me carrying my bed into my new room."
"There is already a bed, Jay."
"Guess what, I noticed that. I don't want this Nichkhun to sleep in my bad, there memories connected with it! Plus, it would just be whack to have a boy sleeping in my bed, okay? So I'll just switch them."
"I'll switch them."
"Correct."
- - -
"Ok Taekyeon! Move your lazy boston ass in here and tell me what this is!"
"Why do you always have to be so rude, I thought we have something special..."
"Cut it and tell me what this is, Taek."
"Eh, I bought indian food. Nichkhun is going to arrive here soon and I thought he might feel a little homesick then, so..."
"OMG, how gay are you, seriously... Next you're going to buy flowers and ballons and indian welcoming banners for him."
"Actually..."
"Oh Lord, Taek!"
- - -
"Our nice home will be invaded by a foreign indian snob in exactly one hour."
"C'mon now, it's not like he's going to kick us out or something?"
"Oh fuck, you'll never know, Taek!!"
"Don't worry, I'll protect you~ "
"Hands off, homo man."
- - -
"Eh... annyeonghaseyo."
Taekyeon and Jay both stared at the new guy. Nichkhun. Nichkhun Horvejkul. He was tall, taller then Jay (damnit), slim and too pretty for a guy. Haphazardly cut, darkbrown hair, white skin, soft lips and dark puppy eyes. Jay gulped and held out his hand. Nichkhun carefully shook it, his skin felt incredibly soft against Jay's hand.
"So...", the self-proclaimed leader scratched the back of his head and smiled awkwardly. "Do you speak english, by any chance?"
For a second, it was silent, then Nichkhun's face lit up and he smiled so endearingly that Taekyeon and Jay both unwillingly melted into puddles of ohmygoshwhyishesocute.
"Oh dear Lord, I was so afraid to be put with Koreans who don't speak english! I'm from Los Angeles~ So you guys are Jaebeom and Taekyeon, right?"
"Right, I'm from Boston and he is from Seattle. You can call us Taek and Jay, okay?"
"Sure, call me Khun. I know that people have problems with my full name~ "
"Ah, name... Are you from India, maybe?"
Nichkhun gave Jay a surprised, but nonetheless cute look and slowly shook his head.
"No, I'm born in Thailand, but raised in the States..."
"Oh, then sorry. We only have indian and korean food and some japanese instant stuff."
"Don't worry, I'm not picky!"
- - -
"Gimme the coffee~ "
"What coffee?"
"Taek, you've been here for almost a year now. You should slowly learn that I always, ALWAYS want coffee for breakfast."
"No problem, here's the coffee."
Jay looked up and met Nichkhun's bright-eyed smile while the boy carefully shoved the steaming pot into Jay's hands.
- - -
"Taek, I know that brushing YOUR teeth and cleaning YOUR ears takes much longer then for a normal person, but could you PLEASE hurry the fuck up? Other people also want to use the bathroom, okay?"
"I'm cutting my toe nails."
"So what?"
"Ah, shit?"
"Everything's alright?"
"I think I cut off my pinky-toe."
Jay facepalmed.
- - -
"Will I survive it?"
"Dude, you just cut your pinky a little bit."
"But... it was bleeding like mad!"
"Oh, c'mon now. What are you, a highschool chick?"
"Jay~ "
Nichkhun got up from where he'd been sitting on the floor in front of Taekyeon taking care of the wound. He whiped his hands with a smile when he turned around to Jay.
"He'll make it, don't worry.", he said before turning around, patting Taekyeon's shoulder.
Before he left the kitchen to use the bathroom he stopped for a moment.
"You two are like a long-married couple, you know?", his last words before sashaying out of the room.
"Jay..."
"No."
- - -
Jay got up at 2:42am because he was thirsty and he knew that he wouldn't be able to sleep without getting some water first. Walking towards the little kitchen he noticed some light and frowned, narrowing his eyes.
"Khun? What are you doing so late?"
The younger looked up and smiled, putting down the pencil in his hand.
"Couldn't sleep... Did I wake you up?"
"No no, I'm just thirsty."
Jay walked over to where they stored all the bottles, taking a water bottle to where Nichkhun was sitting at the kitchen table with the small lamp he'd taken out of his room and into the kitchen. Looking at the sad drawing of a rainy city scenery, Jay smiled blantly.
"Looks good. You're talented."
"Thank you."
It was silent while Jay was staring at the drawing before looking at Nichkhun again. His eyes looked even deeper and darker at night.
"So... I'll just...", Jay nodded his head towards his room and Nichkhun flashed a tired smile.
"Okay. Good night, Jay..."
Jay was about to leave the kitchen, but he stopped in the doorframe when Nichkhun turned of the small lamp. Looking back at him, he sighed.
"At least try to get some sleep, okay? University life drains a lot of energy, you need every minute of sleep you're able to get..."
Nichkhun didn't answer and with another sigh Jay turned around and sat down in front of the younger, looking at him across the table. He could barely see his face, it was only lit up by the silver moonlight. He was looking right at him with kind of sad eyes.
"So, why can't you sleep?"
"It's... nothing."
"C'mon, do you think I'm stupid?"
Nichkhun turned his head away towards the window, the moonlight reflecting in his eyes and he bit his lower lip. Jay could see tears forming.
"Please don't... hate me, okay?", Nichkhun said under his breath and Jay frowned.
- - -
"What's wrong with missing you ex boyfriend?", Jay said calmly, stroking Nichkhun's hair where the younger was lying face down on his drawing, slightly shaking.
"You don't hate me?", he asked carefully, still not brave enough to look into Jay's eyes.
"Why should I? I have nothing against gays and Taek... he's so borderline sometimes, I don't even know..:"
Nichkhun chuckled quietly before becoming serious again when he finally looked up.
"I had many problems because of that... My dad is not talking to me, my siblings have problems because of me and I don't really had any friends in LA..."
"So you decided to start a new life somewhere else."
"Right. But even here, so far away, my past is haunting me... Please keep it a secret, okay?"
"Don't worry, I won't say anything. But you know, Korea's one of the world's gayest countries, so you won't have that many problems here...", Jay grinned, handing Nichkhun a tissue to dry his tears.
Looking at his watch, the younger frowned.
"It's almost 4:00am, I keep you from sleeping~ Sorry..."
"It's okay, I couldn't even sleep knowing that you're worrying so much."
It was silent again when Jay realised how his last sentence had sounded and he awkwardly averted his gaze from Nichkhun's eyes, looking down at his own hands. Suddenly, the younger carefully wrapped his long fingers around Jay's wrist, giving it a little squeeze.
"Thank you. I know this is nothing I can expect easily, we barely know each other for a month, but I'm thankful that I could talk to you about this..."
Staring at Nichkhun's fingers with his heart beating like mad and then slowly looking up at Nichkhun, Jay smiled. Although he didn't exactly knew what he was expecting, he felt that maybe he and Nichkhun could become more then just friends. Maybe.
