"Frase, could you hand me the remote?" Ray said, turning his head towards his lover.

"Ray, it's lying right next to you." Fraser didn't even look up from the book he was reading.

"Yeah, but your hand's closer to it than mine," Ray tried again.

Fraser just mumbled a "hmmm" that could have meant anything and gave the remote control a shove, pushing it towards Ray.

"Thanks," Ray muttered and turned on the TV.

"Nope."

Zap.

"Nah."

Zap.

"Not again."

Zap.

"Ray, could you please focus on one station? Your constant changing of channels makes it nearly impossible to concentrate." Fraser's voice had an impatient ring to it.

"And that from the man who'd probably be able to recite all of Shakespeare's work hanging upside down over a den filled with hungry, roaring lions if his life depended on it," Ray chuckled and kept zapping.

"Please, Ray," Fraser sighed, slightly exasperated.

"Oh, alright!" Ray pressed the off button and tossed the remote onto the floor next to the bed, hitting Dief who had been dozing under the open window and who sleepily raised his head to cast Ray an accusing look.

Ray didn't pay him any attention and started patting his belly rhythmically while whistling the tune to one of the TV shows he had just zapped through, more than a little off key.

"I'm bored, Fraser," he said after a minute, turning onto his side, sliding his hand over the sheets towards his lover's leg.

"Oh, really? Who would have guessed?" Fraser said pointedly.

"Come on, Frase, I really am!" Ray pouted.

"Then find something suitable to do, Ray," Fraser suggested, still focused on his reading.

"Like what?" Ray's fingers gently caressed Fraser's thigh.

"I wouldn't know," Fraser answered, angling his leg, pulling it out of Ray's reach.

Ray started tracing the patterns on the sheets with his fingers.

"How come you're so sluggish? I mean, come on, usually you'd be all over me, trying to get me to do stuff, to take a walk or to, I don't know, at least go out for dinner. For the last two days you've barely left the bed and when you do it's for bathroom breaks or to get something to eat. Which we order in if I may remind you." Ray propped his head up onto his elbow. "That's so unlike you."

Fraser sighed, let his open book drop onto his chest and looked at his lover. "It is too hot to do anything but this, Ray."

Ray raised his eyebrows. "I never thought you'd admit that."

"Why shouldn't I admit it? I'm used to temperatures below zero, this is hardly my climate." He intertwined his fingers over the book and kept looking at Ray, smiling guiltily. "And I have to admit that sometimes a short period of idleness is something I rather like."

"Fuck! Are you sure you're even allowed to think something like that, let alone say it out loud? I'm sure the Queen doesn't like her Mounties all bone idle and such. Isn't there a law in Canada that forbids laziness?" Ray tried not to grin.

"Language, Ray. And yes, there is such a law so I'm relying on you to keep this confidential. A reprimand in my file would cast a very bad light on me and would most likely mean the end of my career in the RCMP." Fraser straightened his shoulders, at least as much as that was possible reclined on a bed.

Ray sat up instantly, crossed his legs and stared at him with eyes wide open. "You're kiddin' me, right?"

Fraser's face lit up with a bright smile. "Of course I am, Ray."

Ray rolled his eyes. "Well, you never know with you crazy Canadians."

Fraser cast him a chiding look and an almost unnoticeable wink and picked up his book again, letting his eyes roam over the page to find the sentence where he had left off.

"Oh, no, no more reading! I think I have found something suitable to keep me occupied," Ray said, got onto all fours and crawled up to Fraser. "And you don't even have to do anything."
