myth_con_faith Mages were greedy creatures.
Asura had told her this, but Rydia had also seen it, experienced it first hand. Mages were hungry for power. They held a rare gift, being able to manipulate elements and the atmosphere to do their bidding. She was especially guilty, because she could summon hellish beasts from other dimensions and had learned the deepest, darkest, most destructive spells the planet had ever seen.
Even white mages were not exempt; if the high of destruction was a powerful pull, then the high of healing was worse. Knowing that you held life or death in your hand, that you had Fate by the throat, was as heady a feeling as wiping out your enemies with powers granted to you from the cosmos.
Mages were greedy creatures.
Rydia's greed was especially insatiable. She often pouted when there was nothing left to kill on the battlefield. The smell of scorched earth, charred flesh, the sight of crumbling bones and skin peeling away, causing screeches from the damned were enjoyable on a primordial level. She reveled in black magic, in the ability to make her thoughts, her wants, her desires tangible. She would hunt at times, kill just for the thrill of it. She would never tell her friends. They would never understand. If anyone could, it would be Rosa, but even she could not fully comprehend the enjoyment gleaned from the sight and smell of blood pouring out of wounds and lacerations she had caused through simultaneous whipping and magical tantrums.
Mages were greedy creatures.
Gaining satisfaction from her role as harbinger, as Death's right hand just made Rydia all the more dangerous. Her thirst would never be quenched. She was a summoner, yes, but she was also a mage. A black mage. And mages were notoriously greedy creatures.
