Kai watched Black with Shi-chan, watched as he took the flowers she held out to him, watched and smiled even though his chest felt so tight it was hard to breathe. He could feel Yellow looking at him but he kept his gaze firmly on Black and the woman he was in love with, the woman he’d thrown everything away for. It took almost everything he had to keep smiling, to act like Black turning away from them, away from him, wasn’t the most painful thing he’d ever gone through; to act like everything could go back to the way it had been, even though it couldn’t.
He smiled even though he wanted to shout and scream and maybe even cry, though he’d never admit to that last one; smiled as though every vague, half-formed wish he had hadn’t just been dashed to pieces; smiled because he had his pride and he wouldn’t let anyone see just how much it hurt to find out Black was in love with someone else.
