Summary: Bruce & Lana realize , hopefully not too late, that their affair is deeper than they thought.
Bruce had expected her leaving , he just didn't expect to miss her so. Lana had been upfront from the beginning of their affair that she was not over , and probably never be over, her ex - boyfriend. Over time she explained why she couldn't be with her former love. He felt for her and sought a cure for her. Eventually he was able to find a way to absorb they kryptonite from her. She wasted no time and left Gotham and Bruce behind.
He visits the park where they met. He had seen her being attacked and went to rescue her , but watched in awe as she saved herself with her superhuman strength.
He hears footsteps behind him. He moves his boy into a defensive position until he smells a familar perfume, a perfume he had bought a certain woman. He turns around to see a guilt - ridden Lana. He says nothing but fights taking her in his arms. He's displeased with himself for letting his feelings get this far. After Rachel's death he vowed to never let anyone in , and yet he let Lana in and got hurt.
" I'm sorry." Lana says in a near whisper.
" You never belonged to me. There was never a 'us'. " His words taste bitter. Like he's lying and he realizes he is , to himself, to her.
She moves closer to him. " I used to believe that too. You know where I went , I know you do."
" Yes, but why are you back?"
" To be with the man I love. I just didn't realize it until I went home. Until I saw Clark with Lois."
Bruce chuckles bitterly. Of course , she's back for sloppy seconds. He was suprised she didn't put up more of a fight for Clark.
" I'm not here because he didn't want me back. I never even let him know I was back. I saw how he looked at Lois now. He looked at her a different way than how he looked at me. "
" What was different ?" Bruce says softly.
" He trusts her. He never looked at me with pure trust.You look at me the way he looks at her. " Her next words she said softly but with pure conviction."I love you ,Bruce. I love you the most. I trust you the most and I will earn your forgiveness and trust back. I will - "
She was cut off by Bruce as his mouth touched hers. She pushes their bodies closer. She won't leave him again. He knows her and still trusts her , which means even more than any lust or love they have.
He pulls away for air. " This won't be easy. I won't be easy."
" Does this mean you forgive me for running?"
" I would have done the same in your shoes. I can't hold it against you when I wouldn't have done anything different. I never let you know , I never let myself know , how much I need - how much I truly love you."
" How about we forgive each other ? I think there will be a lot of forgiving and undertanding in our future. We might as well start practicing."
" I don't doubt that." Bruce says as he pulls her close and kisses her
