In this life, it's only you that I want..
"BBRRIINNGG~!!"
*Thwack*
"Bbrr.. iiiinnggg~"
"Damned alarm clock..."
*Thwack*
"...bringggg~"
There and then, there was the loud sound of the plastic case of the poor alarm clock being thrown against the white plaster wall.
"..ring."
KangTa buried himself deeper into his covers, avoiding the slight glare of the morning sunlight peeking from the half open blinds of his window. Yet, no matter how comfortable his bed seemed, no matter how much he wanted to just go back to sleep without any care in the world, he could not convince his mind to do so. Grumbling, he pushed himself up to a sitting position, randomly focusing his eyes on the painting hung above his bed.
He half-stifled a huge yawn with one hand, while letting the other mess his unruly brown hair. He let his mind wander back to recollect whatever fragments of his dream that he could find. As those pieces came to assemble in his imagination, he raised one eyebrow in immense amusement.
"I can't possibly dreamt of marrying HeeJun," he mused as he got down the bed. "The both of us standing in the church; him wearing a black tux and all.." He shook his head, wiping the tear that formed at the corner of his eye from the continuous yawn he had. "Nice dream... It seemed so real."
"Oh well," he shrugged while a huge grin appeared on his bronzed face. Suddenly, all traces of sleepiness left the brown-haired figure that was Ahn ChilHyun as he skipped to his bathroom. "Time to start another day!!" Inwardly, he could not recall why he set his alarm up in the first place. There had to be a reason for him doing so, but at that very point of time, apparently the "reason" had abandoned his memory.
Slightly half an hour later, KangTa emerged from his bathroom, only dressed in his black boxers as he towel-dry his hair. He was aimlessly walking around in his house as he seemed dazed, his mind seemed to be preoccupied with something. Something interesting, definitely. He ran one hand through his wet hair; once he reached the kitchen, he poured himself a glass of orange juice. Recalling something, he frowned.
"If HeeJun's wearing the tux, won't I be wearing the bride's attire?"
As fast as the word left his mouth, an imaginary picture of his wedding scene with HeeJun popped in his mind with a puff. He could not help but choke on the orange juice he was half-drinking. He chuckled. The scary thing was that ... He actually thought that he looked pretty nice in that pristine white wedding gown he conjured up in his brain.
*Ring Ring~*
KangTa turned to his door at the sound of the doorbell. "Who could it be?" He wondered, started to make slow steps towards the door. When the shrill sound of the doorbell persisted, KangTa hurried his pace.
"Coming, coming!!"
He opened his door only to raise both his eyebrows at the sight of a well-dressed Moon HeeJun.
"Hee-HeeJun-hyung!"
While HeeJun found KangTa's astonished face very amusing, he could not help but avert his attention to the latter's less than appropriate attire. Not appropriate indeed, when the other was only dressed in his boxers and a white towel slung around his neck, but still interesting nonetheless.
"Hyung, what are you doing here so early?" KangTa asked, while making way for the older person to enter his house.
KangTa cocked his head to one side as he eyed HeeJun with worry. The other person had refused to budge even with his implied invitation to go inside the house. Instead, HeeJun was staring at him with such intensity as if he was the last morsel of food left on earth.
"Hyung? Hyung? Hyyuuuuungggg~" KangTa dragged the word and let his voice fluctuate into an adorable intonation. He waved his hand in front of HeeJun's face, after which the latter still keep his gaze fixed on him.
"HeeJunnie-hyung!!"
Half worried, half petrified by HeeJun's lack of will to move away from his doorstep, KangTa's face began to scrunch up in a frown. Stifling a small smile, he grinned inwardly at the sudden urge to tease his hyung. He stood on his toes while placing both of his hands on HeeJun's face. Leaning forward, he gave the unsuspecting man a sloppy kiss on his cheek. He grinned when HeeJun's onyx eyes widened at his gesture.
"Took you long enough to come back," KangTa smiled as he stuck his tongue playfully. He then pulled HeeJun by the arm into the house and closed the door.
"So, what brings you to my humble abode at such an early hour of the day?" KangTa asked again, rephrasing his earlier question with an attempt at a sophisticated tone. He opened his refrigerator, wondering what he could bring out. He could only scratch his head when he realised that it was literally more empty than full. He closed the refrigerator door with a pout. He had to blame HyeSung and JiHoon for engulfing practically all the edible foodstuff in his house two days ago when both of his best friends crashed his house. Well... He pondered. The two of them and himself, actually, considering he ate a third of what was gone.
"Taya, I thought I reminded you over the phone last night that I'm coming over in the morning?"
"You did?"
At KangTa's puzzled tone, HeeJun chuckled. "Let me guess, you forgot?"
"N..No..." KangTa tried to defend himself, even if he felt trapped at that moment. "It just... slipped off my mind. Yeah, that's it."
"Liar," HeeJun pointed accusingly.
"No~" Came the wail from the kitchen. A moment later, KangTa came bounding into the living room where HeeJun was seated, furiously flourishing his white towel. "HeeJunnie-hyung!" He said with a grim determination. In order to emphasise his point, whatever it was, he pulled both ends of the towel in front of him to each side till the material was at full tension. "I didn't forget about it."
"Taya," HeeJun answered calmly, a knowing smile began to appear on his facial features. "You forgot."
KangTa's frown deepened by the seconds until finally he heaved a resigned sigh, biting his lower lip in a pout, giving HeeJun his best apologetic look. He let both his hands fall to his sides as he hung his head low.
"Okay, I'm sorry, I forgot about it." So that's why I set the alarm up... He thought to himself.
"Are you..." HeeJun gestured to the only article of clothing on KangTa's figure. "Are you planning to go out like that?"
KangTa raised one eyebrow in confusion as he slowly looked down at himself. "Oh my God!!" He screamed, slapping both his hands on his cheeks. Apparently, he did not realise that he was only clad in his boxers all this while. He then ran towards his room with a speed that could rival a sprinter. Once inside, he slammed his door close.
"Hey, hey, careful!!" HeeJun shouted across the room just before the door was slammed shut. "Don't trip over that cable-"
*Crash*
"Ouch~"
"-again."
HeeJun covered his face with one palm as he winced at the loud commotion within the room. His KangTa is definitely good looking, handsome, adorable and all, but sometimes, a little too forgetful and ... clumsy, for his own good. But still cute, nonetheless, HeeJun smiled, thinking about the earlier kiss he got.
He fingered the small box he kept safely in his pocket, feeling the velvet texture. He thought to himself, "I think he really forgot why I'm here..."
~*~
"Junnie-hyung!!" KangTa exclaimed happily, pulling HeeJun towards the shop with immense excitement. "Let's go in there!"
HeeJun just let himself being dragged willingly, only smiling as he looked at KangTa's child-like actions. Over at the cashier counter, HeeJun only took a few quick glances at the colourful, pretty cakes and pastries displayed, before placing his order.
"Can I have a cup of coffee and ... one Chicago cheesecake, please?"
"Of course, Sir. Is there anything else?" The counter attendant asked politely while keying in his order.
"Yeah, my friend has not placed his order yet," he replied, turning to his left to find KangTa. "Taya, what are you..." HeeJun blinked his eyes at the empty space previously occupied by KangTa. "Ta-Taya?" While looking around, HeeJun felt a small tug at his pants and he looked down only to see his brown-haired companion squatting in front of the display case, swooning.
Swooning over cakes.
"HeeJunnie~" KangTa said with feverish eagerness, all the while pulling the material of HeeJun's pants. "All of them look soo~ pretty and nice; I can't decide!!" Never once he pulled his eyes away from the fascinating slices of rainbow-like pastries. While he himself was struggling to keep his growing laughter from emerging, he randomly heard faint giggling from his behind. He felt like covering his face in embarrassment when he saw that a few customers, mainly female, were looking their way and chuckling at the antics his friend displayed.
"Hyung," KangTa pouted when he felt ignored, but immediately smiled back when he averted his gaze to those fascinating pieces of food. "Help me to choose~"
"Taya," HeeJun felt a drop of sweat trailing down his temples. "This is so embarrassing." He almost forgot that KangTa had this very sweet tooth and liked all things sweet. As sweet as the person himself, HeeJun added inwardly.
"Hyung~" The whine got even louder, as KangTa held HeeJun's wrist and pulled the other figure down. HeeJun, on the other hand, did not expect the pull he got. Unable to withstand the slight surprise, HeeJun could only widen his eyes when he found himself being pulled towards KangTa. And onto the floor. The next thing HeeJun realised was that he had both his hands on each side of KangTa's astonished face and that while he was facing the floor, the other boy was lying back-flat on it. For a moment, both boys could only lock their gazes into each other's intense stare.
The whole cafe was almost silent as most of the customer deliberately halted their food-consumption while fixing their eyes on the fallen duo and holding their breath.
"Taya..."
"Junnie..."
"Taya..."
"Junnie..."
"Taya~"
"Junnie~"
"Ta-"
*cough cough*
"Don't you think it's a little inappropriate for you two do that here, right on the floor and in public?"
Both KangTa and HeeJun looked up to see two snickering figures standing by their side.
"Yah, Moon HeeJun," the shorter one with brown hair teased, before kneeling down to offer his hand. "Get a room will ya?"
HeeJun took the proffered hand, half-scowling while trying to hide his embarrassment. "That was an accident, Woo."
The other taller figure offered his hand and helped KangTa to get up from his fall. "Nice pull, Hyunnie," HyeSung said, giving the older boy a playful wink of his twinkling brown eyes.
"Sungie, that was an accident," KangTa insisted, a faint crimson streak started making its way up his face.
"Yeah, accident," HyeSung mimicked, the grin on his face still persisted.
"HyeSungie!!" KangTa whined. "It's an accident!! Accident, accident, accident, accideeeeent~!!" He pouted, while continuously tugging, poking, hitting and doing whatever other things possible to HyeSung, trying to convince his best friend there and then that it was indeed an accident.
"Hey, hey, I told you I * know * it's an accident!!" HyeSung protested, evading the half-hearted swats he was receiving.
"NO!"
HyeSung blinked. "No what?"
"Your face told me that you're * not * convinced!!" KangTa insisted, pointing an accusing finger at his companion with golden-brown hair. HyeSung could only let his face fault at the accusation, half-smiling at his friend's action.
While the distracted duo were busy bickering, MinWoo took a small step to his right and whispered to a staring HeeJun.
"Hey."
"Huh? What?"
"We'll be preparing what you asked us to prepare after this. You sure you don't have any other instructions for us?"
"Uh.. No, not as for now," HeeJun answered after pondering for a moment. "Thanks a lot, Woo," he said with a smile of gratification.
"Sure, no problem," MinWoo grinned, putting an arm around HeeJun's shoulder. "So, did he really forget about today?"
"Yeah..."
"He's so forgetful."
"I know," HeeJun whispered absently. A small smile was playing on his lips as he looked at his boyfriend lovingly. "But I love him anyway.."
"Aw..." MinWoo gave HeeJun a grin that could rival that of Cheshire cat's in Alice in Wonderland before fixing his gaze to the other two figures as well. "He's so cute, arguing like that..." MinWoo sighed, running one hand through his short brown hair in a habitual gesture.
"Who?" HeeJun gave his shorter companion a quick glance before averting his gaze back to their original object of attention. "Taya? Of course..."
"No, I was talking about HyeSung."
"No, KangTa's cuter."
"No, HyeSung is."
"NO, KangTa is."
"HeeJunnie, the last time I said KangTa's cute in front of you, you went green with jealousy!!"
"When was it?"
"Your memory's failing you, Woo."
"I have perfect memory; you did ignore me then cause you're jealous!"
"I did not."
"Yes, you did."
"Did not."
"Did do!"
"Did not!"
"Did DO!"
"Uh... Sirs?" Came the timid voice from behind the cashier counter.
"Later!!" Both MinWoo and HeeJun turned to give the waiter a complementary pair of death-glare before turning back to each other, still spouting nonsensical arguments.
" ... Are you still ordering?" The faltering question fell on deaf ears. The confused and ignored counter attendant could only scratch his head when none of his 4 customers was taking note of his enquiry. He looked at the growing queue line and was amazed at the fact that none of the other customers was complaining of the delay.
In fact, everyone seemed to be amused by the quartet's show of "affection".
~*~
KangTa looked at HeeJun from his peripheral vision. The other person had a smile tugging at the corner of his lips while still keeping his bright onyx eyes fixed to the front. The gentle breeze was blowing softly against his face, lifting that short hair from his black-clad shoulder. Brushing one stray lock of brown hair away from his eyes, KangTa asked softly, "HeeJunnie-hyung, where are we going?"
"You'll know soon enough," was the only reply he had, before HeeJun tightened his hold on KangTa's hand, intertwining his fingers with KangTa's cold ones. "You'll like it; don't worry..." The older of the two continued, flashing KangTa a small smile that emitted warmth. Looking at that smile, KangTa could not help but to smile back in response. It seemed like not only "yawning" is contagious.
HeeJunnie.. Why are you so nice to me?
He recalled the day's event with another sheepish smile as he fell on HeeJun's footsteps. After that positively awkward scene at "Sweet Secrets" - the embarrassed four later learnt the name of the particular cafe - in which the cafe's general manager was forced to literally "kick" the quartet out, both him and HeeJun had spent the rest of the evening walking aimlessly in the Mall. MinWoo and HyeSung had left soon after, claiming that they had important tasks to attend to despite KangTa's request for them to stay.
Of course, HyeSung told him that they did not want to play gooseberry, a phrase which caused him to blush there and then.
It was not until late evening that KangTa actually found things to be a little amiss. When it was almost dinnertime, HeeJun had presented him with another surprise.
Earlier, he remembered exclaiming a "Hyung~" loudly, while tugging at HeeJun's sleeve with sheer anxiety, looking at the expensive-looking restaurant they were about to enter. While KangTa was already frantically thinking how they would pay for their food had they really dine in there, HeeJun was marching towards the place with confidence, as if he had everything planned out.
True enough to KangTa's suspicion, the food was indeed high-priced. He almost had a heart attack when he unfolded the sophisticatedly decorated menu and took a peek at the price list. He was about to just leave his seat and walk out of the restaurant when HeeJun, with his reassuring smile, promised him that nothing would go wrong.
If it were a normal dinner, KangTa would not have thought of it too much after a while. However, besides the fine cuisine he was presented with, there was even a violinist by their side, performing specially for them. It was as if the fact that HeeJun had actually reserved a table - a table for two in a private room with the setting of a romantic candlelight dinner - did not do enough effort to surprise him.
As surprised as he was, KangTa was more touched than anything else.
Unknown to KangTa, there was a glitch when HeeJun approached the receptionist, wanting to pay for their extravagant meal. HeeJun already took his wallet out and was about to present his credit card when the attendant dressed in sleek black uniform calmly said, "Thank you, Sir, but all your expenses had been paid for."
"Paid for? By whom?" HeeJun asked in disbelief; his credit card almost dropped from his hand onto the counter. Nobody in his right mind would pay for such exorbitant expenses.
"The one who reserved the arrangement for you, Sir, Lee MinWoo-sshi," the attendant explained.
"MinWoo? He paid all of it?"
"Exactly, Sir."
"He.. He paid * all * of it? Must have burnt a huge hole in his pockets," HeeJun murmured to himself. Turning to the guy behind the counter, he asked again, "Are you sure? This is not a joke, isn't it?"
The attendant laughed, "Of course not, Sir. MinWoo-sshi had ensured that we give the best service for you. After all, who could defy an order from, and personally delivered by, our boss' son?"
"He's what?" HeeJun widened his eyes at the shocking revelation. It was no wonder when HeeJun mentioned about his plan to the both of them, MinWoo kept snickering while HyeSung just smiled knowingly. He should have known that he was missing something when MinWoo offered to help him.
"Oh.." HeeJun saw the attendant retrieving a white card from a drawer before presenting it to him with a flourish. Beaming widely, the man in black-uniform said, "He left this card for you."
Thanking him politely, HeeJun read the message on the pristine white card. It was just a simple line, but definitely MinWoo.
We did whatever we can do. It's all up to you. ^O^v
HeeJun could only smile at that short note, putting the card in his pocket when he saw KangTa returning from the washroom.
~*~
"Penny for your thoughts?" HeeJun whispered in KangTa's ears.
"Huh?" KangTa turned around, feeling himself grew warmer when he found both their faces only inches apart.
"What are you thinking about?" HeeJun found it quite ... disturbing to see his KangTa, usually a happy-go-lucky soul who had little worries and lived by the principle that "no matter what, the sky's still blue for us", was sporting such a mellow expression. So when KangTa stopped in his tracks to turn to him, HeeJun gave the former his fullest attention.
"HeeJunnie-hyung.."
"Hm?"
"Why are you so nice to me?"
After hearing the question tinted with curiosity of a child, HeeJun did not answer immediately but gave KangTa a smile while tightening his hold on the latter's waist. "Ain't I always nice to you?" He countered.
"Hyung~"
HeeJun chuckled at the small whine. When HeeJun shifted his gaze away from the brown-head, the latter could only heave a small sigh before leaning closer to his companion. The duo resumed their walk like that in each other's arms.
After a few moments, KangTa caught sight of something sparkling a slight distance to his front. When they got nearer, he could only gasp in awe and the beautiful spectacle.
"Wow..." KangTa marvelled at the reflection of the moon shining against the clear water surface of the lake.
"Remember this place?"
"Of course!!"
HeeJun chuckled silently, shoulder shaking from repressed laughter. "I thought you're so forgetful that you'd forget even the place where we first met."
"Junnie-hyung!!" KangTa protested, jumping on his spot, his cheerful and blithe personality returned and gained control. "I'm not * that * forgetful!!"
"I'm just joking," HeeJun laughed. He dropped his tone to a whisper, "Close your eyes."
"Why?" KangTa cocked his head to one side, frowning quizzically.
"Just close your eyes," HeeJun urged gently.
So KangTa did. While the colourful lights in his eyes danced against the black backdrop of his eyelids, he could barely hear the sound of hurried footsteps around him. For a second there and then, he could have sworn that there were more than just HeeJun beside him. But when he was told to open his eyes, only HeeJun alone came into his vision.
A smiling HeeJun holding firecrackers on both his hands.
KangTa brought his hand to cover his mouth in a surprised gesture at the sparkling wand, crackling noisily on HeeJun's grasp. "Hyung..." He managed to mutter. "How did you know that.." He let his words trail off before taking one of the two firecrackers from HeeJun and started running around playing with it.
HeeJun could only smile at his lover there and then, watching him dancing at the bank of the lake with one hand holding that bright firecracker. It was amazing how such a small, inanimate object like a firecracker could fascinate KangTa that much. For a moment, when his senses were only filled with KangTa's laughter and beatific sight, HeeJun could not help but wonder how could a human be captivating, how could he look so gorgeous with his sun-kissed face bathed in the silver moonlight.
He watched KangTa sketch random pictorials with his firecracker against the dark backdrop of the surroundings before stopping abruptly only to call upon him. "Hyung!!" He shouted. He flailed his arms wildly in the air, willing HeeJun to come to him. Unable to resist such charm and angelic smile, HeeJun then ran to the brown-head, not forgetting to bring the bag of unused firecrackers along with him.
To an innocent onlooker, the duo might appear to be filming a movie with the both of them moving around in slow motion and in the background, faint instrumental music that enhanced the romantic atmosphere was being played.
A little past an hour and numerous firecrackers later, both figures were laughing happily by the lake.
"That was so fun!!" KangTa grinned, flashing HeeJun his sweetest smile.
"Anything to make you happy..."
"HeeJunnie-hyung.."
"Taya.." HeeJun said softly, holding the other's hands. "Happy birthday.."
Just as he finished his words, the tree that was a few metres in front of KangTa started to light up and the brown-head could only gasp, again, at whatever he saw. There, by the tree, was a huge string of colourful lights, neatly arranged to form the phrase "happy birthday" imprinted in the best cursive writing he had ever seen. How the lights could stay in position, hung by tree, was a mystery that KangTa could not explicate there and then.
"Hyung..." He gasped breathlessly. The thing that shocked him even more was that he actually forgot that it was his birthday after all. "This is.."
"Happy birthday, Taya. Hope you've enjoyed today," HeeJun said.
Throwing his arms around HeeJun's shoulder, KangTa replied, "Of course I did. And I still do… It's the best birthday I've ever had.."
"That's not all."
KangTa released his hug and gave HeeJun an inquisitive frown.
"Turn around."
KangTa's frown deepened but he did as he was told anyway. A split second after he turned around, another tree lighted up, and this time, a similar loop of suspended lights was composing the phrase "I love you". The rainbow-like colours stood out as they shone brightly against the dark silhouette of the tree.
"Junnie.."
KangTa was met with HeeJun pointing to the tree again, signalling for him that there would be more coming up. When he looked at the tree again, the lights disappeared for a moment before lighting up again. This time, it assembled to the phrase "Marry me.." in a similar cursive fashion.
"KangTa.."
KangTa turned to find HeeJun down on his knees, both hands holding an open velvet box with a diamond ring neatly tucked in the compartment.
"Will you marry me?"
KangTa was left speechless as he could only stare open mouthed at the other figure. He followed HeeJun, who was rising from his position, with his eyes and he almost cried when the latter slipped the ring into his finger, in which it fit perfectly.
"Hyung, I don't know what to say…"
"Just say you'll stay by my side."
KangTa bit his lips to prevent the tears from spilling out. He could not believe that the dream he deemed as absurd just earlier in the morning had almost come true. He encircled his arms around HeeJun's shoulder and whispered in his ears, "I will.. I wanna be together with you till the end of time."
HeeJun only smiled at the softly whispered words and slipped his own arms around KangTa's slim waist.
"Saranghaeyo.."
"Me too."
As the two lovers stood like that in each other's arms, another instrumental piece began to play in the background. KangTa almost frowned when he thought he heard a familiar song playing in the atmosphere. He then fixed his gaze on the blinking "happy birthday" on the tree he saw earlier and smiled as he tightened his embrace.
HeeJunnie, I love you..

[Meanwhile]
"Psst, HyeSungie, look at them!!"
"Wait, wait, MinWoo, stop pulling me. I had to adjust the volume of the music!!"
"Quick!! They're gonna kiss!!"
"Oh yeah?" HyeSung bolted from his place beside the portable CD player to land beside MinWoo. Two brown heads were seen poking through the dark green bushes as the duo spied on the pair of lovers standing by the shimmering lake.
"Hey," HyeSung tugged at MinWoo's sleeve. Or what he thought was MinWoo's sleeve.
"Sungie, what are you doing hitting my butt?"
"Oops, sorry."
"If you can't wait, you can just tell me, you know," MinWoo whispered suggestively.
This time, HyeSung really slapped MinWoo's butt. "Byuntae.."
MinWoo just grinned back, rubbing his sore spot. "What is it you were trying to say?"
"Isn't it a little… unethical for us to spy here?"
"He asked us for help, so it's alright for us to stay here," MinWoo said matter-of-factly.
"But.."
"Besides," he continued, flashing HyeSung an impish grin. "We aren't spying; we just happen to * be * here and saw them."
HyeSung chuckled.
"And Sungie, you * do * want to look at them, don't you?"
"So do you, Wooie."
MinWoo stuck his tongue out, before turning back to the couple.
"Sungie!! They kissed!!"
"Aww... MinWoo, they're so sweet.."
"Yeah.."
MinWoo's smile faded as he realised that HeeJun was beginning to unbutton KangTa's shirt.
"Wooie," HyeSung called, apparently he had noticed what MinWoo did too. "If they're gonna do that here, wouldn't we be unable to retrieve all those lights we set up earlier?" He played with the switch of the lights absently.
"True.." MinWoo turned around when the scene in front of him got a little steamy. HyeSung followed suit. Leaning their backs against the bush, the duo gave a collective sigh.
"Looks like we're stuck here."
"What are we gonna do now?" HyeSung asked, leaning his head on MinWoo's shoulder.
"Well.." MinWoo pondered for a while before putting his arms around the blonde's waist.
As a thought hit his brain, a smile began to form on MinWoo's lips. Almost immediately, he turned to his side and pounced on HyeSung, causing the latter to lie flat on the grass.
"MinWoo," HyeSung whispered fiercely, careful not to let their hidden position known. "What are you trying to do?"
"You asked me what are we gonna do," he grinned. "We can always do what they are doing."
"MinWoo!!"
The End (For real..)
