"The lord of the north has sent this gift in his gratitude." The messenger lay the parcel on the large table where Sesshoumaru sat. He gave the boy a nod and waved his hand, signaling that he was dismissed. After the messenger was out of the room he pulled the hemp rope that tied the parcel closed and revealed a bundle of fine silk.

"Jaken!" he yelled, knowing that his retainer was not very far.

Sure enough moments later the small toad bound into the room, nearly stumbling when his short legs got caught in the rug. "Yes, milord!"

He threw the parcel at the smaller demon, who barely caught it. "Take this to Rin. I am sure that she will enjoy this."

After he left Sesshoumaru sighed. He was bored.

Shuffling through the various documents on his table he organized them into piles, ranging from 'very important' all the way to 'to be burned'. Looking out over the neat table and it's shining wood leaned back a bit, balancing himself on his arms. He smiled slightly at being able to say that. Arms. Shortly after the battle with Naraku his brother's wench had somehow used her spiritual powers to restore his arm to him.

At first he was extremely angry, thinking that she had done it out of pity. The great and honorable Lord Sesshoumaru would not be pitied, especially by some human onna. It was Rin that finally managed to calm him down long enough to realize that it was a show of gratitude. He promptly apologized to the miko and then he went on his way with his retainer and ward in tow. He had a kingdom to run.

It was fine for the first few months. He took care of some chores that were long overdue and went about checking on the villages that lay within his borders. He even hunted in his true dog form, which felt extremely liberating.

With everything calm once more he was at a loss.

"Oh, the life of nobility," he groaned, leaning forward again. After years of absence, his people needed him.
