Titus has done it again, as if he were again shackled to the rituals of Gormenghast and he had given Barquentine the slip again, only now it's happening at the Mansion. He's given his weapons master the slip and completely dodged this day's training session. He's hidden himself in the less dense fringes of the forest, careful not to venture in too deep and fall prey to the more aggressive furry denizens of the woods. Now he has started to venture up a tree, hoping to hide amongst the branches, but his feet slip on the smoother places in the bark and he might end up slithering to the leaf-strewn ground below, letting out a loud and startled and frankly rather awkward yelp.

I headtilted at this pairing at first, and then it hit me: Del=a more amenable version The Wild Thing aka The Leaf in the books??
