Day 5: Socially distant summer (7/30)

NASHVILLE - Since our return flight didn’t leave Sioux Falls until 8pm, we opted for a road trip within a road trip.

The first stop was Vermillion, the home of the University of South Dakota Coyotes, for Chad's requisite college shirt.

Listening to NPR coverage of John Lewis’ memorial service (#GoodTrouble), we bypassed Sioux City for Omaha, where Chad was able to find at least one minor-league team shop open: the Omaha Storm Chasers

While I knew that Gerald Ford had been born in Omaha, I was not aware that Malcolm X had been as well. (Now that’s an odd couple.) After tracking down the Mutual of Omaha headquarters (RIP Marlon and Jim), we tracked back north.

Chad’s third item on his travel checklist is Hard Rock Cafés; unfortunately, he had to suffice with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Sioux City. While there, we made do with the non-buffet options for a late lunch/early dinner.

After another less-than-fully-booked flight back, we returned to the muggy night that was Nashville. Checking in to the hotel proved to be a fun adventure, as the night clerk was pleasantly conversable, although I just wanted to get everything into an air-conditioned room.
