Ed. note: This is the Christmas memo going out in my Christmas cards this year. If you're not on my IRL friends list -- or even if you are -- please accept my Merriest Christmakwanzukkah holiday greetings, and enjoy my year in review.
I hope that 2019 found you well and leaves you in the same condition.
The big thing in pop culture these days is rebooting old stories - dusting off old ideas and making them more exciting.
Well, one reboot we didn’t want occurred in July when Dad fell off another ladder. (The middle child just never learns. Right?) While the fall was not as far this time, concrete is an unforgiving landing pad regardless of height. Gratefully, there was no lasting damage - scars, aches, and pains aside - and eventually, the Mrs. may let him out on his own once again.
A more pleasurable reboot happened in March, when my AirBnB winter spectacular sent me to the eastern fringes of North America. My trip to Newfoundland also finished off visiting all ten Canadian provinces. The natives were quite courteous - which works out great for AirBnB - and proud to tell about the history and beauty of their isolated, wind-whipped province, although the local accent does require a bit of a listen.
Sometimes, though, the ongoing stories are just more familiar and enjoyable to everyone.
This year, our baseball trips took us to Indiana for opening day at the Gulf Coast during the summer. With the prevailing weather conditions at those times of year, the journeys would have been more comfortable had they been swapped, but alas, we were beholden to the scheduling gods.
Meanwhile, Chad’s annual devotion to Marshall football sent him scurrying to Boise, Idaho. (I saved money by watching Marshall lose that game at home.) He is anxiously awaiting his bowl trip to Tampa, thankful that it isn’t the Bahamas instead. (What?!)
Work situations are still the same, so you know where to find us if you need us.
Be careful and remember - speak kindly and kindly let others speak.
