PENSACOLA - Now that we're on "island time," we took things at a leisurely pace.
After Chad had his free Hard Rock burger for breakfast, we went back to the beachfront and dropped a little money at the
Beau Rivage, where Michael Bolton will be performing next month.
We then moved on down to that sleepy little town of Pascagoula, where the first instance of a
viral squirrel video took place.
Crossing over into Alabama, we had to spend a little time on Dauphin Island. Normally during the summer months, the
Mobile Bay Ferry runs both ways concurrently; however, water levels were low, and only the one boat could only take non-auto passengers until the tide came in. So we surveyed the island, and came back to purchase our slot on the 2:00 passage.
The west-bay delay meant we didn't get to lunch at
Sassy Bass until near 3:00... all the better to savor my shrimp burrito once it arrived.
It was on to Pensacola, where we checked in to the hotel, stopped off at an ATM, and went harborside to see our game of the night: the
Blue Wahoos taking on our opponent (for tonight and tomorrow) the Chattanooga Lookouts.
The Wahoos' pitching was phenomenal. Several pitchers combined for 6 2/3 innings of statistically-perfect baseball, until a perhaps ill-chosen reliever hit two batters and walked two more to gift Chattanooga a run. The no-hitter remained until the top of the 9th, when a ball bounced off the pitcher and died in the infield, allowing the runner safely to first. Regardless, the hometown 'Hoos won 5-1.
