July Journey: Day 3

Jul 05, 2013 23:11

GREENVILLE SC -- Heading out from Chattanooga, we skirted around the Atlanta metro area, dropping in on the Braves of Rome (in West Virginia's league) and Gwinnett County (AAA) before stopping off in Athens to be asked "Whad'ya have?" at The Varsity. (Yeah, it started off near Tech's campus, but UGA's money is as good as anyone's, apparently.)

We found our way north to Greenville, where I may have scrounged up some controversy. My classmate Heather -- the one I missed in NY several years back -- lives in Anderson, about 30 miles away, and while I may get in trouble at the next reunion, I made the decision not to call her and her family up for a meet-up.

After withstanding a Tsunami for dinner, Chad and I moved on to Fluor Field, where the Drive play. As a Red Sox affiliate, Greenville has a Green Monster replica complete with manual scoreboard. It was put to good use, as Greenville whipped up on the Sand Gnats of Savannah, 8-4. (During the game, Heather texted back that they had attempted last night's Greenville game, which had been rained out.)
