Flash trip: Day 2

LOUISVILLE -- The day started off with a tour of the Indiana state capitol. Actually, it started with me retreating from the capitol's entrance back to the car with Chad's verboten Swiss-army knife in tow. Once inside, we had a nice self-tour, even finding the capitol chapel. After pecking out a hymn on the chapel's piano, we headed out of town and out toward Bloomington.

After listening to a Fresh Air tribute to Roger Ebert on the way down, we had a late lunch at IU's student union. Chad got his shirt, and then we trekked over to Assembly Hall, the famed Hoosier basketball arena. We finally found an unlocked door into the arena proper, and found only the court area illuminated; quite a beautiful sight.

Leaving town, we traipsed through forest and vale to the interstate and down to our hotel in Louisville. We had little time before turning back around to the ballpark, but we were able to find free on-street parking just blocks away.

Of course, Louisville's baseball mascot is the Bat -- but not a baseball bat. In keeping with the creature-of-the-night theme, the runs/hits/errors section of the scoreboard was shaped like a bat: the upper numbers were spread further apart than the lower numbers.
