Mountain West adventures: Day 8

UP IN THE AIR

First off, happy 36th, li'l bro.

Flying across time zones is always interesting. We took off from Vegas at 9:45am PT, and arrived in Charlotte at 5pm ET. Our lunch hour disappeared somewhere over the Oklahoma panhandle.

Of course, 5:00 is rush hour regardless the mode of transport, so our plane sat near the gate as other planes shuffled their passengers on and off.

This would ultimately irk a guy seated behind us, who was not impressed with my gentlemanly move to select my female seatmate's luggage out of the three black cases in the overhead bin as we were deplaning -- "Hurry up, wil'ya?!"

In a rare move of personal engagement on my part, I told him what I was doing for the lady seated next to me, and that he should be grateful he wouldn't be trapped behind "this handicapped guy." (I almost considered pulling Chad out of his seat right then and there as an object lesson, but thought better of it. He did remind me later at dinner that he doesn't play golf -- translation: he has no handicap.)

Most likely, the guy caught his plane despite my best attempts, as thunderstorms rolled through just about that time. Given Charlotte's status as a hub, that would mean cascading delays. Our 6:45 flight didn't leave until 9:15 -- although Maintenance had to replace a fuse in the flight panel, as well. (Let this be said: I'm all for any kind of maintenance delay if it means my flight lands in the same state it took off in, i.e., intact.)
