Day 6: Stuck in the Midwest with you

Jun 30, 2010 14:01

ST LOUIS -- Just another morning in the upper Mississippi Valley started off in downtown Burlington. Forget SF's Lombard Street; Burlington has Snake Alley.

For the rest of the morning, we wandered south through Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri -- the communities of Fort Madison, Keokuk, Quincy, and Hannibal, among others -- as we made our way to St Louis.

Chad was keen to eat at Crown Candy Kitchen on the city's north side for lunch, based on a suggestion from Man v Food(?). We knew better than to attempt five malts in 30 minutes. (I couldn't even get through one while we were there.)

We moved on to take a tour of Busch Stadium. It was pretty much your basic stadium tour, so no surprises there.

After we checked in the hotel and decompressed a bit, we went over to Pujol's Grill owned by, you guessed it, Albert Pujols. (How does Chad know all these celebrity restaurants?) Well, #5 obliged -- both on our dinner plates and at home plate -- knocking out 2 HR and knocking in 5 for the Cards' 8-0 shutout of Arizona.
