Travel monologue: day 7

BROOKLYN CENTER MN -- Today was easily the funnest day of it all as I caught up with an old friend.

Peteria (think Klingon: /P'tara/) was the preacher's kid at our church growing up. Now, she is the music director of a Lutheran church in the Minneapolis suburb of Delano.

Not wanting to disrupt her at work, I waited until after the service to go up and say "hi". Until this day, I had never seen her speechless; fortunately, "It's you" and "what a surprise" repeated over and over counts as speech.

We left church and met up for brunch at a nearby restaurant, then made plans for dinner with her boyfriend. (In the truest sense of opposites attract, she lives in Minneapolis, while he lives in St Paul.)

After scouring the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, I met up with them and walked over to a local Thai restaurant. I rang up Chad (who is home from the hospital) and she said hi. A few minutes later, Chad rang back with Peteria's ex-BF's mother (who also happens to be Dad's GF), and they talked for a few minutes more.

Tomorrow -- finally, home. Soon it will be time to give my credit cards a rest.
