Day 6: Montezuma's Revenge

ED. NOTE: Due to the expiration of my laptop on Saturday, all subsequent vacation posts were handwritten on the flights home.

SAN YSIDRO, 7/9 -- With Mexican ridges looming in the near distance over our motel, we hopped on a northbound trolley for some San Diego sightseeing and a Padres game.

With the Padres having cancelled batting practice -- as we had planned to watch it up close -- we were left with time to fill before the 12:30 game. So we headed to the campus of San Diego State University, home of the Aztecs, located right along the trolley line.

As we were leaving the bookstore, I attempted to open my bottled water. "Attempted" because instead, I miscounted three steps instead of four and Ally McBealed onto the cobblestone plaza below.

When all else fails, laugh. Fortunately, there were no orientation tour groups in the area at the time. However, I did scrape my right knee (and the surrounding fabric) and my right foot was bruised on both sides. I don't think it's broken, as I could still hobble around with a minimum of pain. EDIT: I went to the non-emergency clinic Saturday morning after we got back home. The doctor saw no breaks on the X-ray, although there is still the possibility of a torn ligament (which can't be determined by X-ray). As for now, it's officially an overstressed ligament requiring care and a bandage.

Once we staggered back to Petco Park, I discovered that the wheelchair-friendly, 200-club-level seats I had ordered were, in fact, not wheelchair-friendly. (Normally, club-level seating is outside my trip budget, but it was Half-Off Day at the park.) After visiting guest services, we were reassigned to 100-level seating down the left-field line and were refunded the difference: $2. (You laugh, but Half-Off Day + dollar dogs all month long meant that, for $2, I had two hot dogs and a Coke.)

Ever the gentleman, I stood for most of the way back on the postgame trolley, yielding my seat to a little girl. (I know. Everybody now: Awww!!!)
