A brief note to Luke
I suspect that you are the kind of person who rips a Band-Aid off: There is initial pain (and possible swearing) as your now-healed wound is revealed. You move on, but the memory of the pain lingers.
On the other hand, I take my time. There is a brief twinge of pain (and possible swearing) as yet another hair leaves the arm for the adhesive strip. You move on, but the memory of the pain lingers.
And so it is how we've lost our parents -- your father to a sudden heart attack, my mother to a lingering cancer -- only days before the holidays set aside specifically for them. There's pain (and possible swearing). We'll move on, but the memory of the pain will linger.
As a Steeler fan, this should only pain me one year in three:
