The other side of the street

Also in Sunday's prayer requests -- see below -- Lucy mentioned that she was having minor surgery on Tuesday (my birthday, natch) to remove several cysts from her head. (Doubtful that it will remove thoughts of him -- who was elsewhere, celebrating Father's Day with his-and-only-his three kids -- but I can dream, though....)

When the sermon started up, Ed asked if we knew the most popular street name in America. Of course, the reflex answer that came from most of the congregation was "Main St."

Except Lucy: "Elm St."
Ed: "That's right. Who would've thought?"
Lucy: "I did... because you asked the question."

Perfect off-the-cuff, sarcastic-but-not-mean response. One of the reasons I love her. Except -- she's wrong.

I knew -- but didn't say anything because I needed online verification -- that, in fact, 2nd Street is the most popular, followed by 3rd, and then 1st. (The prevailing theory is that the votes are split between 1st and Main. Additionally, when cities rename their streets for prominent people, it's often 1st and/or Main that loses out.)

Last night, Mike mentioned that she came through the surgery all right, but the residual pain was still exceeding her medication. So it was with schadenfreude (I want to put "glee" in there, but freude covers it) that at the end of the service, I handed Mike the printed verification.

"Okay. I'll let her know."

Btw, Ed didn't get his copy last night; he was under the weather, and elected to stay home.
