This is an entry I started on December 3rd and never got around to finishing

Some Russian company bought LJ -- what this means, I know not:

In other news, today is Monday, and yesterday was Sunday.

It snowed overnight, so I awoke to the sound of shovel scraping concrete.
(In fact, I am considering a room upgrade for the semester ahead -- yes, my building runs on a semester schedule. There are rooms overlooking the Hudson, sans odor, plus view, plus expense. We'll see whether or not I feel compelled to fight for one of the prime spots...)

We had about two inches, which gave me the chance to try out some new winter gear, including "boots" of the faux hiking persuasion. Said boots are allegedly waterproof and are suitably heaving and traction-oriented. They also meet my comfort requirements, a must in New York, where ambulation is ceaseless.

This past Saturday evening began with a spot of pre-gaming before a friend's birthday dinner. We managed to fit 8.5 folks into my room -- three on the bed, five-point-five in the room, and half-a-man in the doorframe/hallway. A new record.
Drinks were served and enjoyed, and I took advantage of a new crop of guinea pigs. The most successful of my concoctions was hardly avant garde, a Godia chocolate, Chambord raspberry, Peach Schnapps improv imbibement.

Thai food followed, and mediocre at that, though the company and conversation outshined all else. We invented a new game (and by "we," I mean "me") wherein contestants are asked if they've eaten a certain commonly available food. For example: "Hey, Marie, have you ever eaten... Macaroni and Cheese??" The contestant then responds, "Yes," and the game continues: "Hey, James, have you ever eaten... Rice??"

Fun times.
