Biography:
Myungsoo was born in Seoul on March 13th, the eldest of two, his parents, both doctors, except his mother was a psychiatrist and his father a pediatrician. They live well obviously, since both his parents worked and both of them were doctors, yet neither of them felt that their children should be spoiled, that wouldn’t be right. So they worked them hard, harder than most parents, telling that that they would get nowhere without good grades and a good head on their shoulders. Myungsoo knew his parents were probably right, but that didn’t mean he listened to them.
It wasn’t the normal teenage rebellion that most people have, the issues started when he was only eight. It was obvious he was a child who didn’t like to listen but he also had quite the temper for someone his age, which only got worst as he grew older. His parents would get called in for him having screaming matches with his peers and teachers and later on for fights, where he’d be the one sitting in the principal’s office next to the kid with the bloody nose. He was only thirteen when he had gotten in a fight so bad, that he broke the kid’s nose, and his parents didn’t know what to do. Ultimately, they decided on sending him off to live with his grandfather then, hoping for him to be straightened out.
His grandfather was tough, and though he was well into his 60’s, he was described to have the heart and strength of a bull, and he believed in the old school ways of disciplining children. After living with his grandfather he did get into trouble, but was dragged out of the school by the collar and disciplined at home. Myungsoo still has the scars on his back from the lashing that his grandfather gave him. He had to straighten up of course, but the anger just kept getting the best of him, and his grandfather had caused him a lot of pain, he wasn’t going to let up until Myungsoo straightened up.
The school’s guidance counselor suggested that Myungsoo needed an outlet. His parents’ agreed that might fix the problem, his grandfather thought that it would be a waste of time, but agreed to try this little experiment. Thus, Myungsoo found two true passions. One in music and the other in photography. He was given a camera after the meeting with the guidance counselor.
Myungsoo took to it quickly, taking pictures of almost everything he could find. Because he still lived with his grandfather, the things he got punished for were no longer fights (well there was that one time, but Myungsoo didn’t cause too much harm to the other kid), but for being annoying with snapping pictures too much, and that was more of a yelling then getting hit with something anyway. However he fell in love with photography, and began to carry a camera and film with him everywhere. It became his one and only love… Until he found music that is.
He took to music like a fish to water. Granted he didn’t have the best voice ever, but his skills with picking up on the guitar were not to be argued. He learned quickly, after a year of lessons he started writing his own compositions, sometimes getting his friends to play them a record them. That especially became helpful when he was making his portfolio for Yonsei.
His parents agreed to pay for tuition and room and board when he arrived but to learn some responsibility it was up to him to get money for food, books, and anything extra he needed. It was fair since that would cost less then what tuition would cost later on. He took a job at the bookstore (the discounts on books really helped him out). By no means was he living well though. Ramen every night, a boiled egg or two every morning was doing nothing for his health, so he came up with a plan.
Joining a frat meant that when his parent sent extra money to pay for the room and board, he could use it to get a decent meal and other things he should have but couldn’t afford. So he looked into them. None of them seemed to look like they would fit his needs, so well, a random draw out of the hat picked Alpha Gamma Rho. Glad that he didn’t pick something that he felt that he would kicking himself in the ass later for joining (although the hazing made him think twice about that).
Personality:
Myungsoo is a guy who might not say much if he doesn’t know you. He barely ever raises his hand in class or volunteers to read out loud or even share his work with others, unless it’s a music class. Then he’ll proudly be the first one to pull out his guitar and play what he’s been working on. Things that make it so he has to speak in class? Don’t bet on it, and if you’re not a friend of his, a one word answer may be all you get from him if he can help it.
He’s not about being friends with everyone either. If he has his brothers and a close group of five or six friends outside of his frat, he’s fine. He’s really not a social butterfly and prefers small hole in the wall bars rather than clubs. Frat parties are fine though, because then it usually involves alcohol he doesn’t have to pay for and that’s awesome.
His anger issues from his childhood are still there, just not as bad as they were back then. He hasn’t yelled at a teacher in years. Though he will not comment on the last time he hit another guy. Under no circumstance will he hit a woman or child. That’s just wrong. So if you do happen to get him mad enough, use a woman as a human shield or have a kid fight your battles. It’s better than throwing down with him and possibly getting a black eyes.
Speaking of black eyes, he’d love to be on the boxing team if he didn’t see his parents every other week. His mother forbids it. Even though it’s legal fighting she doesn’t want him to do it at all, and since his parents are dishing out the money he doesn’t do it. He wears his bruises like a badge of honor, so she would see it and she would freak out.
He’s quite close to his parents. Maybe because he hasn’t lived with them in years. He sees them often though, and like most parents they come and embarrass him in front of his friends, want to see everyone, know all his friends and who he’s currently showing interest in. Over the years though, they’ve toned it down a little, but just a little.
Yes, he does occasionally find interest in the opposite gender. However often he’s merely attracted to their looks and it fizzles out quickly. He heard wolves mate for life so he would much rather find a girl he can do that with instead of a relationship that could end a month or year later. If he finds a girlfriend that he really likes, you can be sure he’ll do absolutely everything he can to never let her go.
