I'm sitting here right now wondering why I spent $80 on a 50-font Japanese font pack last month, when I hardly ever type anything in Japanese. Not to mention, I've been without Photoshop for a long time, and lost most of my interest in web design even before that, so I have no real use for it there, either. I just re-downloaded Photoshop last night, and it just sits there, open. I can't even think of a new LiveJournal icon. (Okay, maybe I can...) I'm wondering if I should install it on my laptop anyway, just for picture resizing, in case I take any good ones to send to you guys.

Speaking of my laptop, that reminds me- Even though I'm bringing my laptop to Japan, I don't plan on spending too much time on it. I'm looking at this year ahead as a sort of fresh start, a chance to live more simply (or at least not be tied to the computer). I'm only bringing the bare essentials - clothes, CDs, guitar, computer. (And I think I'm only bringing the computer for a backup e-mail plan, and a storage box for all my digital pictures).

Since I'm staying with three different host families, my year is split up like this: September, October-November, December-June. I can't guarantee that I'll have in-home Net access of any kind (and I'm almost hoping I won't), and I can't guarantee that I'll be near an internet Café, either. So,
  • I don't plan on being on AIM much at all, especially in the beginning.
  • I also probably won't be able to keep up with anyone via LiveJournal. I'll be doing my journal the pen-and-paper way.
  • But I will most likely have a cell phone that can send and receive e-mail (I've got all you guys' e-mails on a piece of paper, so I can e-mail you when I get my new e-mail address).
  • To James and Jesse- I also plan on writing music the pen-and-paper way, primarily. I have Reason on my laptop (still no Sibelius), but I have found that whenever I try to write something with Reason or Sibelius, I spend an amount of time on the computer that's usually wildly disproportionate to the amount of music I end up with. I can always e-mail a digital video of my ideas to you.
Other things not related to keeping in touch:
  • Just as I won't want to be stuck on AIM all day, the same goes for Amazon, so I'll be renting CDs from Tsutaya and using the listening stations at Jeugia and Shinseido to discover music instead.
  • And I won't want to be scouring for tabs on the Net either, so I'm in the midst of reformatting and printing out a bunch of tabs of songs from my CDs and compiling them in a binder. (You know, just in case I find myself in a performance situation) And if I need Japanese pop songs, then I can find them in Kayokyoku magazine (300+ lead sheets per issue)!
