Yesterday Melissa and I drove over to the Office Depot in Mira Mesa (the one on Camino Santa Fe) and checked out some office chairs. We've been needing a second one for awhile and since my UI checks are finally coming and it was my birthday last week, we decided to make it office chair time.

Now, I'm becoming a very picky person. When I needed new shoes I ended up going to at least a dozen stores and trying on more shoes than I can recall before I gave up and bought the shoes I wear now. Of course those shoes are already falling apart so that ordeal will begin again soon. Anyway, we went to Office Depot on Saturday and found a chair that we both liked, but I wanted to try more chairs. It would've been $80 if we bought it on Saturday and normally. We then went to Staples only to find out that it had been closed for an hour. That evening we went to Sears, who I thought carried chairs but doesn't and visited Jaclyn at Nordstroms, who told us to check out the chairs at Fry's.

Today we again embarked on a chair search. We first went to Fry's. I wasn't thrilled with the chairs there. They had one similar to  the one we liked at Office Depot only the Fry's one was $60. The deal breaker was the lever design for raising and lowering the chair. When you went to raise it, it was very hard to activate, in fact you could flip the chair without activating the raising mechanism! So after we gave up on chairs we started to walk out. I wanted to get some popcorn from the popcorn machine so Melissa went to buy a couple sodas and I waited in line for the popcorn machine. After I realized the family in front of me was getting several tubs of popcorn from this air popping machine that pops popcorn fresh (great idea, except when there's a line) I gave up and began to drive to the Office Depot in Mission Valley.

So the Office Depot in Mission Valley is situated next to a Sears Essentials store. Melissa was looking for these black dress shoes she found at the Sears in UTC so we went in the Sears Essentials store first. The shoes weren't there. We then walked next door to Office Depot and went back to the chairs. I tried out a few chairs and listened to an old lady tell her husband something about "going with the leather" then decided that I wanted the same one that we had liked the day before. Of course since we had waited a day that price had gone up from $80 to $100, but having the piece of mind that I choose the right chair made it worthwhile.

Well, we end up taking the little ticket up to the front of the store where the old man that is buying the leather chair is paying for his item. He's taking awhile as old folks are prone to do and as I'm looking at the counter I realize that he's paying with a coupon which is part of the reason it's taking so long. Turns out his coupon sheet has not one coupon on it, but four, for four different chairs and as I look at the sheet I realize that one of these chairs is the one that I want! The woman at the check stand rips out the coupon she needs and begins to hand the sheet back to the man when I say, "excuse me sir, are you going to be using those coupons?" Of course he wasn't so as I point to the picture on the sheet I tell him that I'm actually buying one of the chairs and was hoping I could use the coupon. He looks at the woman at the check stand and says, "if it's alright with her" and hands me the sheet.

So...on Saturday the chair was $79.99+tax. On Sunday it was $99.99+tax . As I swiped my card through the reader and punched in my PIN, the price of the chair was...$49.99.
