Ghost Ship

fuzzygondol and I spent the night on the Queen Mary in Long Beach last night. It was an awesome stay. We had dinner at a ritzy restaurant called Sir Winston and wandered around the old lady for hours looking at everything. The blackberry tea martini was fantastic. So was the soufflé. I can't say enough good things about Sir Winston's.

There was an art deco convention (or something) going on and many people were dressed in vintage clothing which added immensely to the atmosphere.

The engine room is a steam-punkers wet dream. The engine room was very sexy, BTW.

The ghost tour we went on the next day was lame. I mean, it was cool in a way, because we got to descend into the depths of the ship and see cool places and hear stories about things that actually happened, but the dramatic music and the fictional elements really detracted from the experience. It was more like a haunted house than anything else.

Next day, we slept in on the king sized bed in our stateroom and ate bagels, fruit and cheese from an onboard cafe. One piece of cheese appeared to have a nibble already taken out of it. My vanilla latte was excellent.

After disembarking, we went to the aquarium in Long Beach which was overly crowded with expectant mothers and screaming children, but I discovered the video setting on my Droid and managed to have fun with it.

Dinner was at a trashy sports bar. The mojito was lame. We finished out the night with a visit to Borders for more coffee and books. Bought more than we should have. Ah, sweet excess.

We would love to go back to the Queen Mary sometime. AOKP's fortieth re-union should be held in the ballroom on board!
