Winter starting early

I missed the memo about fall only being one day. I worked 3 nights in a row and got off work Friday morning. When I got home, it looked like an autumn blizzard. The leaves were making a mass exodus off the trees. It didn't register as unusual because I was tired out of my mind. The kind of morning you barely make it home awake. Most of Friday was spent asleep. Saturday, we had some light snow. I went outside to explore this latest development. What was most shocking was how bare the trees were. And then more snow came. *depressed*
One of the (many)things I really liked about moving out of Florida was the changing of the seasons. Cincinnati has a long fall and spring. The colors are bright and stay around for a month or more. The days gradually get cooler. You have plenty of time to wear those outfits with the cute tights and light sweaters. Here(SD), on the other hand, winter makes it's appearance as early as it can and does not end until the end of April. Summer this year lasted only 2.5 months. I know because I pay attention to how warm it is. There is no intermediate weather. No time for cute outfits, just heavy jackets and sturdy boots. On Halloween, kids wear their heavy jackets over their costumes. This year, my daughter will be a princess in a snow jacket. You make allowances.
Now, I have a goal ahead of me. I have to make it to Christmas. At Christmas, we plan to fly to warmer climates and bask in the sun. I'm praying that will tide me over until the snow melts. Otherwise, quitting my job will look really good.
