New Italian study links aspartame (a.k.a. NutraSweet) with leukemia.
Aspartame was invented by a G.D. Searle chemist in 1965, but was initially rejected by the FDA because studies suggested it might cause brain tumors. It was again rejected in 1980 because of unanswered health questions. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan was swayed by the CEO of Searle (an old friend) to FIRE the current head of the FDA, and replace him with Arthur Hull Hayes, who did approve aspartame.
Hayes was accused of taking corporate gifts in 1983, and left the FDA to work for... G.D. Searle.
Oh, and that friend of Reagan's? The CEO of Searle? Donald Rumsfeld.
