christmas is love.
friend love.
surrounded by the ones i trust
singing our hearts out for a cause
my cause
a night filled with shrieks of laughter
arms around me
good food
great wine
old and new
mingle
chatting
love abounds.
boyfriend love
the perfect dinner with his and my parents
watching them enjoy each others company
each getting used to the evolving status of us
then just us
alone
which was the most perfect gift of all
time together
wrapped safe and warm and cozy
eyes locked
hands grasped
he gave me words that made my heart melt
and a sinfully delicious coat lined with teddy bear fur to keep me warm when he cannot
his gift that has been a month in the making
was opened with joy
his growing smile my just reward
and oh...to sleep in the arms of my love
was the most wonderful feeling of christmas
his hand on my cheek
the things i used to take for granted or might have skipped over
are now miniscule moments I will never forget
the playing of etta james.. at last...my love has come along...
the strength of his shoulders as he carries me out of my wheelchair and into bed
his ability to calm my heart by holding me close
i am the luckiest girl in the world
family love
my siblings plotting for days
crafting working together planning
this may be the first year that there were no tears in the making
we can work together seamlessly
helping sharing
ok with using our strengths and letting others fill in where their strengths lie
i am less of a perfectionist now
know when i need help
and they are more then help
we are a team
i was proud of my brother today
he worked hard on my dads gift
enlarged, printed, mounted, framed then hung photos of
both my dad 40 years ago
and himself last season
jumping and hotdogging at Manning Park
in the basement
2 generations of young bucks
showing off in the powder
he led my dad on a goose chase throughout the house
leading him to the basement
the best part of christmas morning
the gifts you've put your heart into
just waiting to see the smile
on your receivers face
mum loved her handmade santa
dad his bright, photo filled calender
annie her necklace with tiny charms filled with photos of us and the endearing term of 'geek'
i also gave my mum a charm necklace with photos of the family in it...
but more than the gifts
was just the excitement of it all
the feeling of togetherness
we weren't rushed today
a lazy day in fact
savouring each cup of tea
breakfast together
settling in beside a roaring fire in my parlor room
cat cuddled up in between my dad and i
annie read a short story by stuart maclean out loud
her voice punctuated by the crack pop of the flames
i napped while my family watched my gift to hunter, the santa clause
i rested while they went and caught some fresh air before dinner.
and its the little things that make me feel so loved
my mum taking the time to wash my hair before we left
annie fetching my nice clothes from upstairs
hunter pulling my boots on for me
dad warming the car before i got there
we arrived at my aunt and uncles house for dinner
there really is nothing like family
such a comfortable and enjoyable evening.
i am safe with family
i do not need to hold my head off the table
play strong
they know when i need to lie down
there is no shame here
in needing help
delicious dinner
followed by rousing parlour games
each team cheering their own
quick wit and on your feet
laughter abounds
this is christmas.
christmas is love.
To my friends and family near and far.
May you find love in the smallest and tallest of places.
I love you and am grateful for your love.
Merry Christmas!
feeling safe and loved in this wearable huggable hoodie
Here are some photos of the calender my siblings and I made for my dad...
And some photos of the 'Olympic- themed 2010' Santa. He was made out of a medal base, modeling clay, 4 ends of plastic forks cut off for the skis.
A Thank You Letter To My Family,
I want to express my gratitude but at this moment words seem to fail me. My one tool doesn't seem to be enough for what it is you do each day. Hunter, your sense of adventure. Dad, your willingness to learn about our world. Maman, your perservearence. And Annie, your ubelieavable patience. You all astound me. It's not only physically that you carry me through but also the emotional and spiritual journey. Thank you for listening as I try to find some purpose to all this (and for putting up with the circus that seems to go along). Each day you all bring me renewed energy. It is because of your unwavering support that I'm even being offfered this next chance of recovery.
Without you, I am nothing.
With you, I am everything.
Thank you for everything.
Eva
