Now, here is an unusual thing:
Me, making a nationalistic statement like the Subject of this post, and me applauding the government of my country. So there must be some quite unusual circumstances to warrant this, yeah?

Well, we've spent a helluva lot more than that on killing Iraqis and Afghans for a start.

True, but I wasn't talking about that.
I'm talking about us being one of the few countries who have actually made an up-front payment.

Apparently, it is the amount that will wipe out our share of the debt owed by third world nations to the IMF. If every country did that, then no more 3rd world debt.

That'd be a start, at least.

Like I said in the post: I'm not exactly the biggest rah-rah guy for our country's government, but I gotta give credit where it's due. It's a gutsy move spending hundreds of millions of dollars on the 3rd world, for absolutely no return.

(Well, no return other than the possibility of eliminating poverty in some of the worlds poorest nations, which is the greatest trigger for civil unrest and terrorism that there is. Seriously- that $136.2 million will go further towards making the world safe than ANY amount spent on the "War on Terrorism".)

So, maybe I'm trying to shame other countries into doing the same.
