I never expected Duo Maxwell to be in a church. I've known him to do many strange things in many strange places that I could never understand, but this was almost impossible to ever see him here.
He looked distracted by the organ music that echoed off the stone walls of the church. One of the few churches you saw with its traditional foundation and building. They even had an authentic person playing the organ; not some CD.
Duo almost looked like a priest who worked at this little church in the middle of a giant technological city.
An even more amazing sight was that Duo looked like he was involved in the churches praying 'rituals' as Dr. J called them.
When I approached him, he looked up and I saw his glazed eyes staring straight through me. I wasn't even there anymore; maybe a memory was haunting Duo again. It seemed to happen more often now than ever.
After a few seconds, he finally smiled at me as he stood up. Duo's braid was dripping, but I couldn't see what the dark liquid was.
Duo embraced me with such fragile intensity it didn't even seem real.
"I'm sorry... I wanted to save them but..." He whispered in my ear, but he didn't have to say anymore.
I had heard there had been an OZ attack near a little orphanage earlier that Duo had been sent to take care of.
The dark liquid on his hair... was blood.
