Saturday morning, I met up with my cousin L at her sister’s house located about an hour from Louisville. My cousin N was a gracious host, providing a place for us to stay after our day of Potter fun. We ordered pizza there and had lunch with N and her daughter before L and I took our scenic drive north. Along the way, we listened to a CD I had burned of wizard rock.
We went to the 3:15 pm show to see ‘Order of the Phoenix’ on IMAX. Those 20 minutes in 3D near the end were pretty cool - the flying thestrals, the Death Eaters, Sirius falling through the veil and Harry’s silent scream, Voldemort vs. Dumbledore, Harry’s possession. This was my third time seeing ‘Order.’ I think I’m good now.
After we had made plans last week to go to the IMAX theater on Saturday, we found out Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys would be performing in Louisville at the Clifton Center that same evening. We decided we would just make it a Potterfest and go to that as well. The IMAX ticket was $10 and the wizard rock ticket was $7. That’s a lot of Potter for 17 bucks. :D
After locating the Clifton Center and buying our tickets, we had about 90 minutes before the show. The
Clifton section of Louisville is a really charming area and we decided to hang out at a nearby Irish pub. I was going to just eat a quick bite there but everything on
the menu sounded good at
The Irish Rover and I couldn’t resist going for a full meal. Cottage pie, Tennent’s lager, Chocolate Guinness Cake, Oh my! I’ll definitely be returning to that establishment.
We then headed over to the
Clifton Center. The theater has about 500 seats, not that anyone used them for seating. Little Ginny Weasleys were jumping up and down and screaming everywhere. Moaning Myrtle was in the row in front of me. At first I thought I might have been the oldest person there and the only one without a MySpace but I did see a few there who were out of their comfort zone. They had obviously brought their kids but weren't joining in the fun. Seriously, not even a smile for the song, “Cornelius Fudge is an Ass.” :P
While maybe not the greatest musicians, the bands did a good job entertaining the Potterphiles. I think
Draco and the Malfoys were the better musicians but
Harry and the Potters worked that stage and every fangirl in the audience. Both bands kept it all about the world of Potter and the catchy lyrics were easy to pick up and you couldn’t help but sing along with the enthusiastic crowd. Year 3 Harry cracked me up with his existential oration about 'sticking it to the man' (Voldemort) and then dancing at his keyboard like a loon.
When we returned to cousin N’s home, they had just finished watching
The Inheritance. We chose Sense and Sensibility to watch next so my cousin L could squeeze a little more Alan Rickman into her day. Still in HP mode, we counted six British actors from the HP films in
Sense and Sensibility: Alan Rickman (Snape), Emma Thompson (Trelawney), Robert Hardy (Fudge), Imelda Staunton (Umbridge), Gemma Jones (Madame Pomfrey in CoS), and Elizabeth Spriggs (Fat Lady in SS).
Sunday was L’s 29th birthday. We slept late, had lunch (grilled pork chops/veggies), and then watched
The Moonstone which is based on the book written by Wilkie Collins in 1868 and considered to be the
first English detective novel.
My cousin L also just gave her notice for her current job because she found out she had gotten the graphics design position she wanted at Georgetown College near Lexington. So she’ll be happily busy over the next two weeks relocating.
I got home Sunday night about 9 pm. So last week was a fun Potter-filled week with the Louisville trip and the
Asheville one. It was a good way to enjoy the end, hanging out with others from the HP fandom. I’m a little tired though, so I may be Pottered out. Unless of course, anybody else wants to do some more fun stuff. :P Oh, who am I kidding? *runs off to Portkey* I think
Teacher’s Pet gets updated on Tuesdays. :D It’s now time to get caught up on reading lots and lots of H/Hr fanfiction. :D
