I don't know why I'm watching the news. They are pointing fingers on the issue of Hurricane Katrina. They're debating the effectiveness/moral-ness of a new text-messaging service which provides information to kids about sex. The most popular story is about who was kicked off last night's American Idol. They're saying the Oprah may be called the next Mother Teresa.

We've known for tens of years that if some fair-sized storm came to New Orleans everything would be gone. Don't pretend only special people were privy to that info. Parents need to be talking to their kids about sex. Come on now, how hard can it be? Who cares how hard it is! You're they're parents. You signed on for this when you yourself had sex. Now you get to talk to your kids and make sure they are comfortable (as much as is possible) with bringing up those sort of issues with you. Don't let someone else send a message to your kid that you don't agree with. That's stupid. American Idol. Whatever. Sure it's a fun show. I think, though, that too many people do allow these shows to be their idol. Today America cares more about a guy getting kicked off a reality tv show than about anything else. Oprah will never be like Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa served God. Oprah serves herself. MT believed in God. Oprah believes in herself. MT helped others; Oprah helps herself. Sure Oprah has pushed many amazing causes and given expensive stuff to poor people. I doubt she would do it, though, if she didn't make a ton of money in the process.
