Holy shit.
I'm not honestly sure how I like this Master. He's rather a bit too wacky for me I think. Then again, I'm sickly loyal to Ainley, for all his campiness. However, he is managing to be much more successfully sinister than any previous incarnation. Which is something, that's for sure. Still, feeling a bit of a "*sigh*, I suppose they felt they just HAD to bring him back, didn't they?" over it all.
Okay, SO VERY MUCH LOVE FOR JACK. Why? Just... cause? He's Jack? There's just something utterly squee-worthy about having the Doctor walking next to Jack, paying attention to Jack, and ignoring Martha almost totally. It's just... beautiful.
Which, by the way, oh BURN with the "like someone you're in love with who doesn't know you're there". WHAHA!
Things it was probably wrong of me to hope:
1.) That Martha's mother would die
2.) That Martha would stay on Earth in mourning
3.) That Martha would get a fucking clue that the Doctor doesn't love her
Thing I thought without a real good reason why, perhaps with input from either Jack or Ianto:
*bit with Jack on TV* "Oh, Jack's on telly! The team will know he's alive!" *bit with the Master saying he's sent them on a goose chase* "Ianto will know anyway."
Had issues with the Doctor aging. 100 years and he's OLD? I think not. Honestly. Rusty has a rather different concept of Time Lord aging than in previous decades. I still quibble with his decision that the Doctor is 900 years old. He's surely, SURELY much older than that, and honestly, I had numbers from the old series to back that up with at one point. I did, honest. At the very least, I know the Fourth quotes an age at one point, which would have given him MORE THAN 100 YEARS PER INCARNATION, NONE OF WHICH LOOKED AS OLD AS TEN JUST DID. And I'm really quite sure he's gotta be lying about his age. 900 my ass. And don't even give me the "Rusty wrote it so it's now true" garbage. He's bloody wrong, okay? WRONG.
Sorry, can't take the 100 year aging thing seriously. OBVIOUSLY it's gonna get reversed somehow, but if you wanna believe 100 years does that to him? I got a lovely bridge for you to buy. And here I thought the Master might have a serious threat.
*grumbles 100 years my ass*
Other than that, OMG GALLIFREY! OMG HISTORY OF THE MASTER! OMG SLIGHT VERY SLIGHT HISTORY OF THE DOCTOR!
Okay, a bit conflicty with things, but I still got a mad thrill from it.
I suppose we don't really know if they are "brothers", although that would be, from my understanding (WHICH APPARENTLY RUSTY NEVER SHARES) a rather loose term for Time Lords. We know they were close... but other than that, it's all a bit vague.
I get that they're the last two Time Lords (as far as we know, anyway), but how the hell has the Doctor not learned that giving the Master more chances is... well, honestly, stupid? 900 years (by Rusty's calculations), or over 1000, (by mine) - 45 years of OUR time... and he hasn't learned YET. Get a clue, Doctor! Please!
Overall though... hoooooly shit, that was something. And it's gonna be SOME finale! Whoa.
