First day in management

Mar 13, 2007 02:28

Oy. Just... Oy.

I strongly suspect that the previous music manager did absolutely nothing managerial during her tenure.

It's a huge mess, which I started seriously cleaning up today, including returning a whole slew of stuff that really needed to be gone already.

I lucked out big time, and had a former music manager as my closer tonight, and a perfectly competant, intelligent opener for tomorrow, so that's taken a lot of the strict-on-sale pressure off this week. Hallelujah.

None of which makes any sense to those of you who don't (and haven't) worked at the Satan Pit before. (That would be everyone except...two of you on my friends list.) Suffice to say, today was a huge huge headache created by my predecessor.

On the bright side, I am making 11 dollars an hour now. That's more than I've ever made. That's kinda nice.

And I have purpose, at least, even though I'm being asked to do a lot of things I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO, and have to constantly remind people that I WASN'T TRAINED FOR THAT.

I kind of expected that, though. That's just how it goes at this store.

In other news, I've quit dance. I still have to email or call or whatever and say I'm not going back, but I didn't go tonight, and I told my parents I'm not going back.

It hurts, a lot. I'll probably cry at some point. But how was it worth paying for the misery I was having every week? The disappointment? I'd already lost something I loved, really. I'll either pick something up temporarily before moving, or wait till I move, but this is only a temporary loss of dance. I gotta remember that.

Hangin' in there.

moving, dance, work
