Went to see Phantom again today...
Before I forget, what the heck is up with "mini-Piangi"? Why on earth does Piangi need a Mini Me? That's not in the stage production... is it?
I always forget about him after I leave, but when I'm watching it it is just weird.
I cried a little, again. No surprises there.
Just a little analysis thought. I think during Stranger Than You Dreamt It, the Phantom is almost as mad at himself as he is at Christine. I mean, he just screwed up his chances there. She's seen him now. He probably feels a little like it's his fault that he's ugly. (Not that he's THAT bad in the movie... and he is anything BUT ugly with the mask on...) So the ensuing 'temper tantrum' as I've seen it called, is just because he can't stand himself, can't stand the thought of losing her because he let his guard down for just a second.
And I have to say, it just hurts to hear him call himself a "loathsome gargoyle" and "repulsive carcass". I always want to tell him he shouldn't do that to himself.
Although I have frequently been guilty of almost exactly the same thing.
