Conservative Driving
The minimum wage reach it's highest dollar value in 1968. Ever since then low and middle income workers have in effect been getting poorer and poorer. Ah the warm yellow spreading flow of trickle down economics.
Being in that category the contradiction between maintaining survival necessary mandated artifacts, in particular the artifact second in expense only to the cost of housing, the automobile, has become a challenge. My car has been preventive maintenance starved because of the costs of services. A recent estimate at preserving it's functions is $2000. If I spend the savings that are sustaining us so far in my unemployment we'll have a car and far less household bill money. This in my case may become the final solution to the car problem.
I've been riding my bicycle more and more. Now if I can only find a job. Preferably in bicycling distance. If I didn't need a car to visit my Mother 25 miles away I would sell it now.
