So far -- one novel, two short stories.

These are x-posted from my personal journal, but I hope that they're OK here. I'm mainly interested in sci-fi and fantasy, so I'm starting the year with three sci-fi works...

Dawn, Octavia Butler

I cannot agree more with your reviews of Dawn and "Bloodchild." The rest of the Lilith's Brood trilogy is equally mind-boggling, though Lilith I think remains my favorite character. And Bloodchild...generally I think Butler is a better novelist than short-story writer (her ideas almost always seem novel-sized) but that one story would put her in the history books even if she had written nothing else. It manages to be blood-curdling and heart-warming all at once.

I've been looking for that Chiang story for a while; I gather it's been anthologized several places but he hasn't yet done a second collection?

I found the story in an anthology -- The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year (2008), V. 2, ed. Jonathan Strahan, although Chiang's also had it published as a stand-alone, so if you're looking for it I hope that helps. (I think it might be in one of the Dozois anthologies, too. At any rate, it's awesome, and very worth finding.)
