# 28 - Kathryn Dodd-Farrawell and Jason Russell, Our Rooster, Jack (2004)
I found another Indigenous children's book just in the main section of the kid's library. This is neat, as there don't seem to be nearly as many books by Indigenous authors in the adult section of the library. Adult books by Aboriginal authors are, for some reason, often shelved in the 800s as literature, near Shakespeare and the Victorian classics where, I imagine, there are a lot fewer casual browsers.
Anyway, this book is a short, simple story for beginner readers. I picked up the giant sized book designed for teachers to read to classes. Apparently each book comes with supporting material for teachers.
They are produced by Indijreaders -
http://www.indijreaders.com.au/ To quote from their website: 'Indij Readers Ltd is a not-for-profit publishing company that develops and publishes contemporary, Indigenous literacy materials for students learning to read and write.
We are dedicated to showcasing Australian Indigenous artists through our books and driven by a desire to improve literacy statistics.
At Indij Readers, we want books - lots of books - that truly interest Indigenous students and inspire them to pick up a book, have a go, see themselves, learn and have fun along the way. We also want non Indigenous students to have the same experiences AND to learn more about the first Australians at the same time.'
